Big Data as a Threat to Democracy

Cathy O’Neil, former Wall Street "quant," data scientist, author of the blog and the author of Weapons of Math Destruction: How Big Data Increases Inequality and Threatens Democracy (Crown, 2016), says giving algorithms the responsibility for resource allocation reinforces bias instead of mitigating human error and says we need to push back on the "math."
