The Making of a Trump Voter

Chad Kiewiet de Jonge, political scientist and senior research analyst at Langer Research Associates, a leading survey research and analysis firm, breaks down Tuesday’s primary and explains the results with research he has conducted about voters in the 2016 presidential election.

He says the research points to a formula of traits for Trump voters: populist, economically discontent, valuing traditional authority, and thinking minorities are getting one over on whites.

And while this rings similar to Tea Party values, de Jonge says we haven't seen such a strong showing of these traits influencing recent elections.

You might want to skip ahead to 17 minutes into the audio above, when self-described Trump voter Kathleen in Harlem called in (and our Twitter feed exploded with reactions).

@smilesahead@BrianLehrer she likes HER IDEA of Trump but ignores all the things HE SAYS -like shes dating him & ignoring the RedFlags

When it comes to political discourse, I might have to steal the line "The Real Housewives of Politics." @BrianLehrer

Wow. @BrianLehrer is a champ. Able to converse with the Trump supporter caller. She was ridiculous to me but there was no yelling, so👍.
