Monday marks the centenary of the start of the Third Battle of Ypres, more commonly known as Passchendaele. In the three months of fighting, half a million Allied and German soldiers were killed, wounded or went missing. Author of Epitaphs of the Great War: Passchendaele, Sarah Wearne, and chief historian at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Glyn Prysor, discuss the impact of a battlefront which was "one of the most horrific, one of the most frightening places in the world".
