Blind Bargains Qast 145: Lookout In The Dark

J.J. is back from Google i/o with not one, but two, interviews from the event. Joe has a tasty tip in store, the Last Word is full of audio goodness and we have a lively discussion in the news section. Find that wireless earbud that fell between the couch cushions as we re about to delve into episode 145.

Program Note:

We are deeply saddened by the news that Marlaina Lieberg has passed. Marlaina accomplished much during her life as a well-known voice of ACB Radio, highly regarded advocate and a community member like no other. Our condolences go out to the many friends, listeners and family of this amazing woman.

Interview: Lookout For Android

Lookout isn't a Seeing AI clone nor a hybrid of Google Lens made for the Blind. The forthcoming app is a persistent scanning tool that aims to provide assistance in object and text recognition in a unique way that utilizes both context and the on board technology within your phone. J.J. speaks with Patrick Clary, Product Manager for Google's Central Accessibility team, About Google s approach to a growing field of Machine Learning apps created to help us explore the world. During the interview the pair will demo the Lookout app and discuss the potential of this technology moving forward.

Tip: Season Your Food With Doritos And A Pepper Grinder

Joe thought that J.J. might need a tip for eating food on the road. And Lifehacker, Joe's new source for odd and absurd suggestions for things, mentioned how one could add a little Doritos spice to just about anything if you had a grinder nearby.

Feedback from our metric ton of CSUN 2018 audio keeps rolling into our Inboxes. Here s a comment from Lisa Soular
Hello,
I have been listening to your CSUN podcasts via the internet and your new web player. I listen from my Braillenote Touch. It works perfect!

Each year we have seen more people download, share or read the transcripts of our content of CSUN than the previous year's offerings. So much of that success is due to our wonderful audience who have been telling us what they like to hear, and read, when it comes to how we cover these events. There is no way we could provide content like this if it wasn't for all of you. And that is why we try to make it available on so many platforms like the web player. Or our mobile apps, or digital assistants and podcast clients. Uh, DAISY players. Well, you get the idea. It is a lot out there to listen to and we thank all of you for choosing us each week.

Last Word:

Two audio clips this week and neither involve food or cats for some unknown reason.
Peter buys an Echo
Funny Or Die has a unique take on the Google i/o Duplex demo

J.J. has more audio from i/o to share with us soon. Plus, the PR hype machine should start rolling for WWDC and Summer Conventions. There is a ton of news on the horizon for the next three months before we get to those hardware events in the fall. Stay tuned
