Nakedly Examined Music Podcast

Why do musicians create what they do? Why do they create in that particular way? Mark Linsenmayer (aka songwriter Mark Lint, and host of The Partially Examined Life) talks to songwriters and composers about specific recordings, which are played in full. We cover lyric meanings, writing and recording techniques, arrangements, band dynamics, the stories behind the songs, and even music theory.

NEM#88: Lincoln Barr’s Off-Center Vulnerability

Lincoln established the Seattle-based singer/songwriter vehicle Red Jacket Mine in 2003, made three albums and an EP with them, and in 2017 released his first solo album, the jazzy, live-in-studio Trembling Frames.
We examine "Desperate Tormentors" and hear "How To Escape" and a bit of "Memory Up and Die" from that album, and discuss Red Jacket Mine: "Apricot Moon" from Lovers Lookout (2009) (produced by Ken Stringfellow, featuring Ian Moore) and "Jesus's House" from Hello, Old Cloud (2008). For more, see lincolnbarrmusic.com and redjacketmine.net.
Here he is playing "How to Escape" solo live. Listen to the full "Memory Up and Die" while watching some of the mastery process. Here's an AOR rock video from Red Jacket Mine, and here's a chipper one. Here they are at their most chipper, live in studio.
