On the 5th of February, 1943, a group of men were given pens and paper and told to write their final letters to their loved ones. They were to be executed by firing squad two hours later. They had been captured, imprisoned, tortured and tried as members of a growing underground press in the Netherlands, during the years of Nazi occupation. Now they would pay the ultimate price.
75 years later, we were given access to some of those letters. From that starting point, we delved into the stories of who these men were, what they faced during such tumultuous times, and what sequence of events led them to the point of having to write those letters.
