Learn English Through Football Podcast: 2019 – The North London Derby

Football Language Podcast – 2019 – The North London Derby: It’s the big London derby this weekend with Arsenal travelling to rivals Tottenham in the early kick off. We feature that game, as well as the Merseyside derby in our predictions on this week’s show. We’ve got some football language from both our glossary archive and a phrase about dribbling, as well as a review of the footballing news and an answer to a listener’s question. Our quiz question this week is connected with a special type of goal. If you have questions or comments, email us at: admin@languagecaster.com (Damon=DB).

Introduction
DB: You are listening to languagecaster.com’s football-language podcast. Hello everyone! My name’s Damon and this is the podcast for all lovers of the beautiful game of football, and those who want to improve their English language skills. It’s been a bit wet here in Tokyo, but we’re hoping for better weather later this week. Apologies for being a bit late with this podcast. But, I’ll be honest with you the North London and Merseyside derby, Damian and myself were a bit tied up with watching those games!
In fact, Damian went to Wembley to see the North London derby on Saturday. He said it was another tense game as Spurs had to fight back from an early Arsenal goal to claim a point in a game that also saw an Arsenal missed penalty in the final minute and a red card for their midfielder Torreira. A typical North London derby: controversy, penalties and red cards, which means that the spoils were shared; bragging rights are shared.
