The Sinking of the Lusitania

In 1915, the passenger liner RMS Lusitania was sunk by a German submarine off the coast of Ireland and 1,200 people lost their lives. The liner had been travelling from New York to Liverpool. It was one of the most controversial incidents in WW1 and helped turn American opinion against Germany.
