1158 DSU Symphony Band - Celebrations!

For many years, we have wanted to have a Symphonic or Concert Band in our musical family. Now that wish has been fulfilled by the Dixie State University Symphony Band which is under the direction of Gary Caldwell.  Maestro Caldwell is well known to all our listeners as the conductor of the Southwest Symphony Orchestra.

The DSU Symphonic Band, as told by Gary, “...is a young band with great potential.”  We have to agree with Gary.  While the band is not used to the formalities associated with live recording, we feel their first recording with us is quite excellent and we are looking forward to featuring this band on a regular basis.

For their first broadcast with us, we are pleased to bring to our listeners their concert from December 5, 2014.  This is a live recording from the Eccles Concert Hall on the Dixie State University Campus in St. George, Utah.

The DSU Symphony Band performs:

  • Celebrations by Earl C. Benson

  • A Fireside Christmas an arrangement by Sammy Nestico

  • Abide With Me arranged by Jay Dawson

  • A Home Alone Christmas which features music by John Williams from the movie Home Alone 2 - Lost in New York arranged by Paul Lavender

  • Greensleeves orchestrated for band by Alfred Reed

  • A Most Wonderful Christmas arranged by Robert Sheldon

  • Angels in the Architecture by Frank Ticheli with featured soloist Joyce Jacox

We hope our 450 million listeners all over the world will join with us in welcoming the Dixie State University Symphony Band to the Classical Music Discoveries’ family.

Now we are proud to present Celebrations!
