episode 7: 75 Years of Global Prosperity: A Brief History of Free Trade

Lately, global free trade has been under attack both rhetorically and politically, and some may ask why we should care. Every day we hear more and more about tariff policies and the trade war building between the United States and China. Meanwhile, the President pushes away other allies like the European Union, Canada, and Japan. Economists continue to forecast a looming global recession and the interconnectedness of the world economy is a reality that's hard to deny. On this episode of New Business Paradigms, Kristy Jansen and Rinaldo Brutoco discuss the history of trade, and what makes free trade in the globalized world. We discuss multi-lateral trade agreements, notably Brexit and NAFTA, and highlight some key economic indicators – in particular, currency fluctuations in the developing world, global capital flows, and the danger posed by current US economic policies. At the end of show, Rinaldo dishes advice on how to weather the impending economic storm, spends some time on reliable investment practices, and guides us on how to stay optimistic.
