Hurricane Dorian is front and center in this week’s episode of the Disaster Podcast. Our disaster weather experts, Kyle Nelson and Becky DePodwin, both join us to talk about the hurricane’s forecasted path and expected impacts.
We also talk about the National Hurricane Center’s “cone of uncertainty” and how to use it properly when gauging whether a given storm will impact you.
Becky shares her experience touring one of the hurricane hunter aircraft and talks about how it collects data on a storm from the inside to help solidify predictions and models. She also talks about one harrowing journey into the storm during Hurricane Hugo several years ago.
