episode 25: Life in the Peloton – Talking Classics with Luke Durbridge

Life in the Peloton is a packed episode of two halves this time as Mitch Docker and his good mate Luke Durbridge look back at the first Belgian Classics of the season before answering some great listeners' questions.

Mitch and Luke used to be teammates at Orica-GreenEdge, now they live not too far from each other in Girona, and they caught up after Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne to talk about 'opening weekend'.

They explain how pro riders choose the right clothing for the bad weather, Mitch reveals his favourite Belgian beer and they give their take on Gianni Moscon's latest rush of blood to the head.

Then Mitch delves into the email bag to answer some cracking questions. They talk Classics, cobbles and climbs, the importance of upper body strength and double bar tape... How noisy are disc brakes and who would win a two-up between them on the velodrome in Roubaix?

Theme music
The theme music for Life in the Peloton was composed by Pete Shelley, who was lead singer of the punk band Buzzcocks. It was commissioned by the production company behind Channel 4’s coverage of the Tour de France in the 1980s and was used as the theme music for the nightly highlights show. Pete died in December 2018. We were given permission by Pete’s widow and his manager to continue using the music for the theme tune to Life in the Peloton. To hear more about the music, listen to the Andre Greipel episode of Life in the Peloton.
