The Books Most Frequently Assigned By College Professors

The Open Syllabus Project is a collection of over 1 million syllabi from English-language colleges, revealing what books are most frequently assigned to students.

Plato’s Republic comes in at #2 and The Communist Manifesto at #3.

The #1 work of fiction taught at American schools is Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's Frankenstein.

Joe Karaganis, Vice President at The American Assembly and project director of The Open Syllabus Project, and Roosevelt Montas, Director of the Center of the Core Curriculum (Columbia University), present more findings.
