The Brian Lehrer Show

Newsmakers meet New Yorkers as host Brian Lehrer and his guests take on the issues dominating conversation in New York and around the world. This daily program from WNYC Studios cuts through the usual talk radio punditry and brings a smart, humane approach to the day's events and what matters most in local and national politics, our own communities and our lives. WNYC Studios is a listener-supported producer of other leading podcasts including Radiolab, On the Media, Death, Sex & Money, Nancy, and many others.

A Poetry Lesson (With Creative Restrictions!)

It's National Poetry Month! And what better way to celebrate than with four recent (local) Pulitzer Prize winners!

Over the course of the month, we'll hold "master classes" on the air with weekly mini-assignments, plus great conversations about the role of poetry in our lives.

First up, Vijay Seshadri, Brooklyn poet, professor at Sarah Lawrence College and winner of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry for 3 Sections: Poems (Graywolf Press, 2013).

He also came with an assignment for all of you: write a short poem using these 3 restrictions. (Click here for the details + to submit a poem!)
