episode 45: Life in the Peloton – Cameron Meyer
In this episode of Life in the Peloton, Mitch Docker catches up with five-time world points race champion Cameron Meyer.
Meyer won back-to-back points race – or the points score, as the Aussies call it – titles in 2009 and 2010 and more or less made the discipline his own.
Heralded as a potential stage race contender, he turned professional for the Garmin-Slipstream team and in this episode he tells the story of how his first European stage race as a pro was the Giro d'Italia.
In a revealing conversation, he also talks about the moment he decided to walk away from the sport mid-season to re-evaluate what life was all about for him before returning to the Mitchelton-Scott team a little over a year later.
Theme music
The theme music for Life in the Peloton was composed by Pete Shelley, who was lead singer of the punk band Buzzcocks. It was commissioned by the production company behind Channel 4’s coverage of the Tour de France in the 1980s and was used as the theme music for the nightly highlights show. Pete died in December 2018. We were given permission by Pete’s widow and his manager to continue using the music for the theme tune to Life in the Peloton.
