episode 15: Life in the Peloton – Andre Greipel

In this episode of Life in the Peloton Mitch Docker meets Andre Greipel, the German sprinter who won 11 stages of the Tour de France between 2011 and 2016.

The pair sat down to talk during the Tour Down Under and Mitch reveals that Andre has been a long-time listener to the Life in the Peloton podcast and asked when he would be invited to be a guest on the show.

Mitch starts by asking Andre about an unusual race victory – his only pro win that came from a breakaway – and then the pair talk about his early days in East Germany, his rise to become one of the fastest men in the world, his internal team rivalry with Mark Cavendish and what has kept him at the top for so long.

Theme music
The theme music for Life in the Peloton was composed by Pete Shelley, who was lead singer of the punk band Buzzcocks. It was commissioned by the production company behind Channel 4’s coverage of the Tour de France in the 1980s and was used as the theme music for the nightly highlights show. Pete died in December 2018. We were given permission by Pete’s widow and his manager to continue using the music for the theme tune to Life in the Peloton.
