episode 2: Midlife Exercise Guide - Suns Out, Guns Out [transcript]

Date: 17th January 2021

Name of show: A Midlife Less Ordinary

Episode title and number: Sun’s Out, Gun’s Out

Se1 Ep2

 Brief summary of show:

Wayne & Trev reflect on the weight training lifestyle in which they participate in order to keep themselves in shape mentally and physically. Busting some of the myths surrounding bodybuilding and nutrition along the way.

Ultimately, although it should always be a foregone conclusion regarding keeping fit and healthy, the guys make a strong case for the gym being a cool place to frequent in midlife.

Bullet points of key topics & time stamps:

●Wayne: 4:00

My inspiration was that I used to see pictures of schwarzenegger  in the Argos catalogue advertising weider products

●Trev: 8:52

Yeah, I can pinpoint it to one moment when I was on holiday. I've was in Portugal or somewhere like that. And we are sitting on the beach. And I wasn’t really overweight the last few years. But I got to like, just kind of slightly overweight, coming up to middle aged man.

●Wayne: 12:59

Yeah for sure. You can have a little bit of fat as long as your shoulders are bigger than your waist. This works, it works well. And you can do whatever you want within reason

00:03  intro
You're listening to a mid
00:03
life less ordinary, the weekly
00:07
podcast giving you the lowdown
00:07
on becoming a cool older dude.
00:13
The good times are not afraid of
00:13
memory. It's time to start
00:17
loving them again. And here are
00:17
your hosts, Wayne and Travis.
00:26  Wayne
Yeah, Hello everyone. I'm
00:26
Wayne and this is Trev. Hello
00:30
and welcome to the new episode
00:30
which is sun's out guns out and
00:36
a little quip we like to say
00:36
about when the summer comes and
00:40
we got our tight t shirts on
00:42  Trev
you get a summer comes not
00:42
now because
00:44
you don't want to be going out
00:44
because there's no guns now
00:46
there's only they are and they
00:48
nipples. Yeah, yeah. Oh, you
00:48
will see. And we don't want to
00:52
see men's nipples that stick
00:52
that's not cool to see men's
00:54
nipples.
00:57  Wayne
well it is in some
00:57
instances? I guess I'm not I'm
00:59
not saying that's not for every
00:59
reason. Exactly in kingpin it
01:03
is. That's a that's an episode
01:03
in itself. But it's Yeah, so
01:08
sun's out guns that we're gonna
01:08
be talking about all things
01:10
weight training, keeping
01:10
yourself fit. Is it cool? Is it
01:13
not? Should you start? Should
01:13
you not? Hopefully we can
01:17
encourage people to maybe not to
01:17
join the join the gym was Yeah,
01:21
yeah, that
01:22  Trev
trip was on the example to
01:22
be honest. Exactly. We've
01:26  Wayne
talked about that. But
01:26
yeah, I tried. Trevor knows,
01:29
I've been training since I was a
01:29
teenager on and off. And when we
01:32
we got to know each other.
01:32
Obviously, I'm going to first
01:34  Trev
thing when I first saw you
01:34
from like, after sort of school,
01:38
I just couldn't believe how big
01:38
you had got
01:40  Wayne
Yeah. So you must know
01:40
obviously from that, like, Do
01:43
you know your training? So? And
01:43
obviously wasn't? You worked
01:47
with me? And obviously you've
01:47
got loads of your own interests.
01:49
And that is kind of what defined
01:49
me being a sort of bigger guy. I
01:53
suppose it
01:54  Trev
made you who you are. who
01:54
I am as I'm not like a life,
01:58  Wayne
not just an ordinary man
01:58
as such, you know, not just a
02:00
mere mortal. Nice
02:01  Trev
to have something to say
02:01
doesnt't have to be stunningly
02:04
different. No, it's nice. You
02:04
don't want to just be one of the
02:07
average. Yes, yeah, try and be
02:07
something different. Even if
02:11
it's only you that thinks it's
02:11
called in. When we were in the
02:14
third in the in one of the first
02:14
episodes we did we talked about
02:16
kind of finding your identity.
02:16
And that's what you did with
02:19
training.
02:19  Wayne
Yeah. And it still
02:19
defines me to this day is still
02:22
something which makes me
02:22
different people still say talk
02:26
about the gym, you know,
02:27  Trev
like we ever been to
02:28  Wayne
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. I
02:28
feel your arms can I do? And I
02:33
don't think I'm that big. Yeah.
02:33
How much do you bench that's the
02:36
most they're saying oh, here. He
02:36
says,
02:41  Trev
Go say okay.
02:43  Wayne
And I don't like that
02:43
because because of the Django.
02:46
Sorry, that was last week's
02:46
episode. But you know, because
02:48
of that. I don't like that
02:48
accent. But yeah, guy at one of
02:51
the festivals kept asking how
02:51
much i bench. Alone, wouldn't
02:53
you just keep going on about how
02:53
much car can you bench and I was
02:55
just drunk
02:56  Trev
Yeah. walking off. And
02:56
then just coming back as well.
03:01
While you tried to make it. You
03:01
didn't understand it?
03:03  Wayne
Yeah.
03:09
I just gained in my midlife.
03:14  Trev
So yeah, he just, he just
03:14
ground you down.
03:18  Wayne
How could you not want to
03:18
train with characters like that
03:21
coming up? Yeah. You know, yeah,
03:21
this
03:23  Trev
game. Right. right under
03:23
your nose. Yeah, right.
03:26  Wayne
Game, right. When you're
03:26
drunk. And when you're having
03:28
fun.
03:29  Trev
Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
03:29
asking how much you bench lonely
03:31
,was asked you the most macho
03:31
question. Yeah. When you're
03:35
trying to be macho? No, no, no,
03:38  Wayne
I'm not in that. Well, I
03:38
mean, I'm not, you know, the
03:40
opposite. I've just I just enjoy
03:40
training. That's it. That's for
03:44
definitely for another episode.
03:44
But so yeah, so where did it all
03:48
start for us? You know, training
03:48
for me, is something that I've
03:52
had, you know, when I started
03:52
training, I was 14 years old.
03:56
And it was an underground thing.
03:56
What
03:58  Trev
kind of influence you
04:00  Wayne
know, it's funny enough,
04:00
a little bit of that, because I
04:03
used to see pictures of
04:03
schwarzenegger r in the Argos
04:05
catalogue advertising weider
04:05
products I know why he does. You
04:09
know, then machines, you could
04:09
buy that the squash squash up
04:12
and the stretchy ones do sort of
04:12
pull apart. Nice to see them and
04:17
think Oh, that looks amazing,
04:17
you know, in a kind of, by way,
04:20
yeah. And then times because he
04:20
was Mr. Olympia then this is it.
04:23
I'm going back to late 70s,
04:23
early 80s.to me, you've known
04:27
him as an actor first.
04:29  Trev
So I've known him Yeah.
04:29
Big. I didn't know him was
04:34
obviously pumping iron. But you
04:34
know, you didn't take a lot of
04:38
notice of that. We said that
04:38
when it was it was a pretty old
04:40
Terminator.
04:40  Wayne
No, exactly. You you
04:40
would see. Schwarzenegger is a
04:43
larger than life actor, where I
04:43
kind of Yeah, I saw the other
04:48
side, the bodybuilding side and
04:48
I used to buy magazines when I
04:51
was a teenager,
04:52  Trev
and the amount of people
04:52
that he must have influenced.
04:55  Wayne
Oh, God is the biggest
04:55
single biggest influence on the
04:59
how thhe culture has changed
04:59
over the years. Definitely Sure.
05:03
And that's a that's a big burden
05:03
to carry out but
05:06  Trev
bigger than Charles Atlas.
05:07  Wayne
Exactly and that size.
05:07
Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. I've tried
05:13
to grow one, but it didn't work
05:13
out. But
05:15  Trev
yeah.
05:17  Wayne
Now, we won't go there.
05:17
But it's it. Yeah. So to me, it
05:21
was something I started to
05:21
imitate and it wasn't like it is
05:23
nowadays where there was a gym
05:23
on every corner like a
05:25
McDonald's. It was. It was one
05:25
gym in the town. They were
05:29
underground gyms. Yeah. Where
05:29
were middle aged men went to
05:34
sort of train for their Rugby
05:34
tournaments. Yeah, exactly. Fill
05:40
out their shirts. And I
05:40
definitely dabbled with it for
05:44
on and off in my teens. And
05:46  Trev
then when I left school is
05:46
when you're in your teens. Oh,
05:49
isn't it
05:50  Wayne
is difficult. You would
05:50
enjoy yourself. Exactly. You're
05:52
you're doing other things, but
05:52
at least I'd already cut my
05:55
teeth on it. And, and basically
05:55
when I got into my 20s and I
05:59
started doing things like
05:59
karate, you dabble with things.
06:02
I started doing karate. And then
06:02
john Claude Van Damme come
06:04
along. Yeah, he would come into
06:04
it. And he had muscles and he
06:08
was cool with the karate. I
06:08
started doing both good. Yeah,
06:11
he did. And then I sort of
06:11
caught on to it from that I
06:15
started doing the weight
06:15
training more than getting
06:17
results. And I was getting more
06:17
muscley. And, and I kind of
06:20
thought, Oh, I can't do the
06:20
karate don't Yeah, go for it
06:24  Trev
more meaning to it. You
06:24
roll with it? Yeah, you start
06:24
does
06:27
seeing a few bumps and lumps
06:27
appearing. It changes the way
06:33
you are you think roll with it.
06:33
Yeah, it's more of this. bit
06:37
like playing golf. Again. We're
06:37
talking about that. And yeah,
06:39
when you when you so but yeah,
06:39
it's a bit like that. It's never
06:43
enough. Is it because of hard
06:43
work you put into it. And then
06:45
you notice it.
06:46  Wayne
And suddenly it's the
06:46
first time somebody says to you,
06:48
and I think the first time
06:48
somebody ever said anything to
06:50
me, I was probably at the time,
06:50
I'd gone from like 11 stone to
06:53
about 13 stone. And so a girl
06:53
come up to me when I was out one
06:57
night, and I was in my early
06:57
20s. And she said, Mr. wide
07:01
shoulders or something like
07:01
that? And she said, Yeah, or
07:04
something. I think she said, a
07:04
coat
07:05  Trev
hanger.
07:06  Wayne
Exactly. That's probably
07:06
what it was. It was the 1980s
07:09
jacket that was wearing Dallas,
07:09
shoulder pads. Yeah, it was but
07:13
now they've kind of things, the
07:13
things that keep you going and
07:15
that's what's kept me going and
07:15
then I've taken it more
07:18
seriously over the years and it
07:18
becomes your lifestyle. And and
07:21
I've been doing it
07:22  Trev
all the time you get older
07:22
when you're younger, because I
07:26
didn't do it when I was young.
07:26
No. But do you think when you're
07:29
younger? And you just want to
07:29
get big? Yeah, I've noticed over
07:34
the six years I've been doing
07:34
it. I've I've got a bit older
07:37
and I think even now and it's
07:37
probably not the right attitude,
07:40
but he's suiting me. I think
07:40
that's enough. Just keep it
07:45
constant. By See I never did it
07:45
when I was young. So you know
07:48
whether you could tell me that?
07:48
Did you look at it and think I
07:52
try to get bigger and bigger.
07:53  Wayne
Yeah, you just do. Do you
07:53
there's one you'll see a person
07:56
who obviously takes enhancements
07:56
and
07:59  Trev
really into all of the
07:59
older bodybuilders where you
08:01
knew about Yeah,
08:02  Wayne
I used to have pictures
08:02
on my wall with some of the
08:04
women ones and that when I was a
08:04
teenager when I lived at home
08:07
with my parents, and you know,
08:07
it's I was really into it, but
08:09  Trev
I I know disrespective
08:09
women bodybuilders ,I've got
08:12
endless amount of respect for
08:12
them. But I always thought they
08:16
were quite ugly.
08:17  Wayne
No, yeah, the look isn't
08:17
good. Respect.
08:19  Trev
Yeah, that's what changes
08:19
when you do a bit of it. You
08:23
think oh, that's amazing. Is
08:23
that that's that the hard work
08:26  Wayne
it took to get to?
08:28  Trev
To kind of look at it and
08:28
think our poser or Yeah, okay,
08:32
you're not roid head or
08:32
whatever. If you don't do it,
08:35
you're CG to dismiss it. I know
08:35
that I was probably a bit guilty
08:39
of that when I was young. You
08:39
know, you got you get that
08:41
feeling of like, Oh, he's got
08:41
muscles because he hasn't got a
08:44
personality or he's not very
08:44
bright.
08:46  Wayne
What What made you start
08:46
it though Trev? Why did you
08:48
because you were never
08:48
interested until one day you
08:50
said to me, it's time.
08:52  Trev
Yeah, I can pinpoint it to
08:52
one moment when I was on
08:55
holiday. I've probably in
08:55
Portugal or somewhere like that.
08:58
And we are sitting on the beach.
08:58
And I have been really
09:00
overweight in the years. But I
09:00
got to like, just kind of
09:05
slightly overweight, coming up
09:05
to middle aged man. No, I'd been
09:10
playing I played football when I
09:10
was a kid. I played a lot of
09:12
golf when I was still fairly
09:12
fit. I wasn't a mess, but I
09:20
could have easily become a mess.
09:20
Because I was eating you know,
09:24
not a lot of rubbish. But I was
09:24
eating you know more than I
09:28
should. Yeah. And I saw a dude
09:28
walk past and he will you draw
09:33
maybe a bit older and he weren't
09:33
ripped or anything. He was just
09:36
in fairly good shape. And I
09:36
looked at him and I thought I
09:41
should do that. I should just
09:41
work a little bit to get a
09:48
little bit in shape just to kind
09:48
of so it doesn't look like I've
09:51
just let go. I've hit 40 or 41
09:51
and just gone. can't be
09:55
bothered. You can't be bothered
09:55
because my weights always
09:58
fluctuating I've Oh yeah, yeah.
09:58
I've always been on diets or
10:01
haven't I've been on diets used
10:01
to do diet as your tour was
10:04
Yeah, exactly. It wasn't
10:04
nothing, nothing about kind of
10:08
building muscle or wasn't
10:08
anything about kind of toning
10:11
muscle it was just like lose
10:11
weight, gain weight, lose
10:14
weight, gain weight, just all
10:14
about waistband. And that's all
10:17
it was for me. And I remember
10:17
talking to you and I thought I
10:20
got in contact with you again
10:20
about doing the gym and like you
10:23
were like, Yeah, I'd love to do
10:23
it but with your blah blah. And
10:26
I suppose because I'm a fairly
10:26
confident person. I was a bit
10:28
nervous when I went with the
10:28
first I rolled into it quite
10:31
well didn't know
10:32  Wayne
Yeah, you not you do with
10:32
everything. You you your
10:35
interview and all the gear free
10:35
pairs of trainers to wear their
10:39
and on the way back, you
10:41  Trev
listen to those. It makes
10:41
me feel confident. comfortable
10:44
with it. Yeah.
10:46  Wayne
No, that's fine. Oh,
10:46
sorry. I'm not not knocking it.
10:48
I've just I just said you're as
10:48
into it as you are about
10:50
everything else. fashion. Yeah,
10:50
exactly.
10:52  Trev
Yeah, I think that was
10:52
what it was, I saw this guy. And
10:55
I thought I could do some of
10:55
that. It wasn't any, it wasn't
10:58
kind of to attract a female sex
10:58
and I was obviously married. And
11:02
that then so it wasn't like they
11:02
were just a bit more respect for
11:05
myself. You want to just be that
11:05
fella that just couldn't be
11:09
bothered. And just
11:11  Wayne
and in that time, I've,
11:11
you know, you've been training
11:14
and obviously we don't train
11:14
together anymore. But we trained
11:16
together quite a few years,
11:16
because obviously I moved away.
11:19
But in all that time, I've never
11:19
seen you get out of shape in all
11:22
that time. And I'd seen you over
11:22
the 20 years that we've lived
11:26
near each other. So you're you
11:26
were dieting. So you go up in
11:30
weight come down and for
11:30
whatever reason you just
11:33  Trev
give up drinking did not
11:33
Yeah,
11:34  Wayne
you give up drinking,
11:34
which is a shame because that's
11:36
sort of like what defines us.
11:39  Trev
Yeah, that's another
11:39
story. Yeah, that's definitely
11:41  Wayne
for another time. But
11:41
yeah,
11:43  Trev
yeah, I did. And then the
11:43
weird thing is, I'm probably in
11:49
I'd say equally as best shape
11:49
now than I was to not ever been.
11:55
About five years ago, four years
11:55
ago, I was even very, I'd done
11:59
very well. But I know and I've
11:59
come out I put a little bit of
12:04
weight on during lockdown, like
12:04
everybody did. And then someone
12:08
said to me "you put weight on"
12:08
on and that triggered me. Yeah,
12:12  Wayne
but what why do they
12:12
mean? They mean? Do they mean
12:15
bad?
12:15  Trev
mean? Like mostly just for
12:15
your fat get? Yeah, but that's
12:20
that's what triggered me. That's
12:20
always been my trigger. When
12:22
someone says like something or
12:22
you looking at
12:25  Wayne
pictures? Yeah,
12:26  Trev
yeah, yeah. Yeah. It was
12:26
always someone asking me or
12:29
telling me. And I tell you what,
12:29
one thing I love about the
12:32
training is, you know, when
12:32
people are kind of insulting
12:37
you, it might be an ingest or
12:37
whatever, you know, always pick
12:41
the first thing that comes in
12:41
most obvious thing to them.
12:43
Exactly. And back in the day, it
12:43
was always agghh you're fat, get
12:47
fat. And now no one's called me
12:47
fat for about
12:52  Wayne
five years. Yeah. And
12:52
that's what happens. Bigger
12:54
shoulders does to you. And
12:54
bigger.
12:57  Trev
is about the triangle in
12:57
Yeah,
12:59  Wayne
yeah. is you can be a
12:59
little bit of fat as long as
13:02
your shoulders are bigger than
13:02
you and your waist. Yeah. And it
13:05
works. It works. And you can do
13:05
whatever you want. You can carry
13:09
on enjoying yourself, weight
13:09
training, and doing weights to
13:13
you know, not seriously you can
13:13
kind of pick and choose bits of
13:16
it. As long as you work hard.
13:16
And keep sort of at one eye on
13:19
your diet. You can keep in a
13:19
nice shape that keeps keep you
13:23
going for
13:24  Trev
forever. It looks like you
13:24
looks like you try Yeah, but
13:27
doesn't look like you sell your
13:27
soul for my people to do and I
13:31
still think that's a slightly
13:31
bit of a young man's game but
13:34  Wayne
I was part of culture now
13:34
isn't it where before it was
13:37
like on site what was different
13:37
what was a subculture before now
13:40
it's not you
13:41  Trev
know, what's caused that
13:41
was social media. Yes, forever
13:46
time is you've yourself either
13:46
image conscious that's where I'd
13:49
I'd hate to be 22,23 in this
13:49
social media culture, don't get
13:57
me wrong. I use it a hell of a
13:57
lot. You know, I do Yes, but
14:00
honestly, because it's just
14:00
competing all the time to me.
14:05
You know, but did we get away
14:05
from training?
14:07  Wayne
That's no, no, but it's
14:07
true. That's all part of it,
14:09
though. You know, and the reason
14:09
we keep going is because it
14:15
basically works you know, you
14:15
train you don't
14:17  Trev
have to come with way of
14:17
life. Yeah, if you let go of it.
14:21
If you let go. I always feel
14:21
really guilty after like, not
14:25
missing a week or week and a
14:25
half, which is Yeah, keenness,
14:27
but if you do, if I know that if
14:27
I stop, I will just because I
14:33
will just put weight on
14:34  Wayne
Yeah, you can have a week
14:34
off and it's a good idea to have
14:37
a week, every few months.
14:42  Trev
Every now and again. a
14:42
trainging day will come and I
14:45
don't fancy it, and I think I
14:45
really can't be bothered. Yeah.
14:48
And that one of those days every
14:48
now and again isn't a problem.
14:51
Exactly. To me, it's not,
14:54  Wayne
you know, because you've
14:54
got to that stage where you
14:56
were, where you you know, that's
14:56
just a one off to get your mind
14:59
right. Then the next time you're
14:59
going to be up for
15:01  Trev
a game because otherwise,
15:01
otherwise is what it becomes
15:04
such a routine. And we're going
15:04
to talk about routines in
15:07
another episode when you get a
15:07
bit older and stuff. Yeah, it
15:10
feels like it your Bill Murray's
15:10
Groundhog Day you do it again,
15:14
you do it again. So that little
15:14
break and it feels like you're
15:16
treating yourself. Yes. Yes.
15:16
Well, as you're treating
15:20
yourself to a break, instead of
15:20
like, go into the gym or go into
15:25
your, your get your gym, down
15:25
the bottom of the garden,
15:29
wherever you've got it. It just
15:29
breaks that routine. And it is
15:32
nice. Every now and again. It is
15:32
nice to do that
15:35
is nice, and
15:36
long as you don't make it a
15:36
regular occurrence.
15:39  Wayne
When you're our age,
15:39
obviously, we're not training to
15:41
be an A Mr. Olympia. You know,
15:41
there's been times in the past
15:44
when I could have probably gone
15:44
that not for Mr. Olympia. Sorry,
15:47
I'm probably I could have I
15:47
could have lost the fat and, you
15:53
know, and got into
15:55  Trev
it, you know, in that
15:55
you've got your diet.
15:57  Wayne
Exactly. And I'm not
15:57
disciplined in that way. Because
16:00
I want you to still have a life.
16:00
So mine is kind of verging on
16:05
being what we the term which we
16:05
find very funny. It's like, you
16:09
could say disco muscles.
16:09
Somebody we've met Yeah, Eddie
16:15
Hall. Yeah.
16:17  Trev
at home. He pad now and I
16:17
really admire Eddie Hall when
16:22
you come across as a real nice
16:22
fellow we do. Yeah. And we both
16:27
got his book and staff. And
16:27
yeah, he's uh, but when he said
16:30
that, I remember me and you
16:30
watching that documentary? And
16:33
it just summed us up.
16:35  Wayne
Yeah. It's definitely how
16:35
I go. Now how I roll now yeah
16:39
definitely,
16:40  Trev
exactly. But then again,
16:40
if that's what you want, that's
16:43
what you're doing? Yeah,
16:43
exactly. I'm
16:45  Wayne
not trying to be Mr.
16:45
Olympia. I'm trying to look as
16:47
good as I can for the what I've
16:47
got. And while still enjoying
16:51
myself. I'd really like and
16:51
there's no reason. You can't
16:56
start whenever you can start
16:56
weight training. Weight training
16:59
will be good for anyone. Any
16:59
age. I will do this for the rest
17:02
of my life.
17:03  Trev
Yeah. And you've got
17:03
you'll have to adapt it. Yeah, I
17:06
wouldn't. Yeah, you've got to
17:06
because you just can't do what
17:09
you can't train six times a week
17:09
when you're 50 years old. You
17:12
just can't do it. I think it's
17:12
because we used to say this.
17:15
When we train together we'd see.
17:15
We'd sometimes we'd change
17:18
different days, we had other
17:18
stuff going on. And we'd sit
17:21
there and we'd go down and you
17:21
think that guy's always down
17:25
here? Yeah. And for the younger
17:25
generation, training has become,
17:32  Wayne
like cleaning their
17:32
teeth. Yeah.
17:34  Trev
Yeah. Yeah. And where they
17:34
kind of take selfies of each
17:37
other. They spend hours in there
17:37
don't know the threehours.
17:39
Exactly. Yeah,
17:40  Wayne
I mean, it's always been
17:40
taught to me spend as little
17:44
time as you can in the gym
17:44
whilst getting the maximum of
17:46
results. And to me, that's 45
17:46
minutes to an hour.
17:49  Trev
Yeah, I have probably
17:49
changed that because I've no no,
17:52  Wayne
but the time I spent with
17:52
you was afterwards. Yeah, but
17:55
the actual time in the actual
17:55
gym we spend was only about an
17:58
hour. We Yeah, a lot of the time
17:58
I spent with you was before and
18:02
we'd have a bit of a craic after
18:02
with with with every bit of a
18:05
craic. You know,
18:07  Trev
do you find training de
18:07
stress? You don't know? Yes.
18:10
sighs that's the other thing is
18:10
you do i do and i don't i don't
18:14
find it like I've had really a
18:14
really awful day. I must train
18:17
it out. No, but you tell me how
18:17
you feel after you've done it.
18:20  Wayne
I know. It's hard to fix
18:20
the thing. Yeah. You feel better
18:23
the endorphins come out and they
18:23
do
18:25  Trev
any form of exercise? Yes,
18:27  Wayne
yeah. Yeah, whatever
18:27
you're into is good. all I'll
18:30
say is if you want to keep in
18:30
shape, or give yourself that
18:34
kind of respectful shape that
18:34
people will actually admire you
18:37
weight train is the best way to
18:37
achieve that. Even with basic
18:41
exercises, I mean, this is talk
18:41
about some Trev what what what
18:45
would you say if you had to
18:45
choose three exercises to do two
18:50
or three times a week? What
18:50
would you choose? well as in
18:53
weight training, yes. or just
18:53
any Oh no, not just just for
18:57
body just for keeping your body
18:57
in shape like the weight
18:59
training bodybuilding.
19:01  Trev
Um
19:04
I think you've got to do
19:04
something with your shoulders.
19:06
Yes. Again, big shoulders is a
19:06
good thing. I've always traps to
19:12
me is a good thing. Because it
19:12
can make you look bigger without
19:18
without going through all that
19:18
real pain afterwards. Yeah, so
19:22
you don't use your trap for a
19:22
lot of traps for a lot of day to
19:25
day things do you know so you
19:25
can use it to be you can train
19:28
us to really train our traps
19:28
Yeah, yeah big time. So because
19:34
it you still do traps? Yeah, of
19:34
course I do.
19:36  Wayne
I don't actually because
19:36
I realized I'm overtraining my
19:39
traps because I'm looking like a
19:39
trap man. Yeah, I'm
19:42  Trev
so bad. Yeah, everything I
19:42
call trap man. Trap man
19:47  Wayne
know
19:48  Trev
what if what if one of the
19:48
villains are called trapped
19:50
there but he has got he looks
19:50
like he's got two heads on the
19:53
shoulders. got three heads. He's
19:53
like see everyone's
19:57  Wayne
got their own bits of
19:57
their body that grow bigger.
20:00
than anyone else, and I realized
20:00
Actually, I don't need to really
20:02
train traps anymore and they
20:02
still look good because I've
20:05  Trev
always had I don't do you
20:05
know, I don't bulk there. Yeah,
20:08
it's I never I didn't have
20:08
before I trained obviously don't
20:12
have traps. No,
20:13  Wayne
no, I didn't know. You
20:13
know, that was that was one of
20:16
the things you're a lot wider
20:16
than you were yeah.
20:18  Trev
Oh yeah. You don't realize
20:18
that your T
20:21  Wayne
is when your T shirts
20:21
have to fit and you find
20:23
struggle to find fit. Yeah, I
20:23
got a write up. Yeah.
20:33
Yeah.
20:34
They rise up.
20:35
They rise out. Yeah, that's why
20:35
I thought yeah.
20:40  Trev
I think of all of the
20:40
things my traps was one thing I
20:44
noticed more than anything.
20:44
traps on me I'd and I've always
20:49
been, because obviously is a big
20:49
procedure. I've always loved
20:52
trading like triceps.
20:54  Wayne
Yeah, but I've got
20:58  Trev
we used to really enjoy
20:58
that workout.
21:00  Wayne
We used to go do it even
21:00
when we were going out because
21:02
we want to pump up our triceps
21:02
and chest. going out tonight, we
21:08
wouldn't be easy to skip that
21:08
one, wouldn't it it'd be easy to
21:11
skip that workout and go but now
21:11
we want to be pumped up and it
21:15
kind of worked. Because Yeah,
21:15
you know, people notice
21:19  Trev
movie stars would do that
21:19
do read in here The thing about
21:22
Swartz negar and not sporster
21:22
Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren.
21:26
Yes of universal soldiers
21:26
pumping up before they've done
21:29
scenes before like, yeah, that's
21:29
right, look best on the so Yes,
21:33
it does. It gives you confidence
21:33
and
21:35  Wayne
it gives you so much. You
21:35
know, it makes you feel good. It
21:39
makes you look better. And it
21:39
doesn't it's not that difficult
21:42
to do once you've learned the
21:42
basic exercise even if you get
21:44
somebody to just help you out a
21:44
PT for a couple of weeks shows
21:48
you the exercises they give you
21:50  Trev
so you didn't know after
21:50
we started off really kind of
21:54
because I thought I'm gonna
21:54
really go for this as much as I
21:58
can. And to be honest, it honors
21:58
it we it was proper hard work.
22:04
It really was and I'm not saying
22:04
I'm trying low I already think I
22:08
tried reasonable i think but
22:08
honestly a game with and I
22:12
thought Do I need this in my
22:12
life I really enjoyed the
22:15
experience for a lot of month or
22:15
whatever. But I won't get a cake
22:18
keep that going.
22:19  Wayne
Yeah, but the thing is
22:19
that's giving you from what I
22:20
can tell from talking to you.
22:20
Now you do fruits like deadlifts
22:25
and squats? I do
22:26  Trev
Yes. Which which is great
22:26
to be honest. No
22:28  Wayne
I didn't do that. You've
22:28
lifted the mask up the Wizard of
22:32
Oz but but yeah, I did used to
22:32
do sorry but just to put
22:36
everyone straight I did used to
22:36
do legs when I was younger. And
22:39
this is it as I've got older.
22:39
And when I trained with Trev I
22:43
didn't bother doing legs I was
22:43
doing it this
22:45  Trev
way. What am what is and
22:45
what am What did you say? What
22:48
was your sign? Try the legs. No
22:48
one sees your legs Luckily, I
22:55  Wayne
didn't have really skinny
22:55
legs so I could get away without
22:57
you know your similar to me in a
22:57
kind of your same height as me.
23:02
You know we got similar sized
23:02
legs length wise
23:05  Trev
Yeah, we have we never met
23:05
those pipecleaner legs. No, no
23:09
when I was a middle kid of ovary
23:09
type black jeans. I never had
23:14
pipecleaner legs so we were Lucy
23:14
Walker. You
23:16  Wayne
got big calves.
23:18  Trev
Exactly. Yeah, even before
23:18
I tried legs everyone a young
23:21
guys in the changing room said
23:21
to me said Oh, you must train
23:24
your legs in for that. Yeah,
23:26  Wayne
don't try to talk. Well,
23:26
that's another thing in the
23:28
respects that younger guys give
23:28
you exactly. Yeah, that
23:31  Trev
was true. I yeah, yeah.
23:31
Yeah, I quite like that. It
23:34
keeps you Yeah, we've met a lot
23:34
of younger guys and get on with
23:39
them and talk to them. And then
23:39
their dads as well anyway yeah.
23:42
And all they do Yeah, they do
23:42
kind of have a slight you know,
23:47
respect you should just give up
23:47
your job and you should could
23:49
should give up your job become a
23:49
doorman back in the day.
23:52  Wayne
But I'm not I'm not even
23:52
though you would probably ask to
23:55
complete
23:56  Trev
your identity. I
23:56  Wayne
don't I don't like
23:56
fighting I don't I like to get
24:00
better because we know we're not
24:00
fighters. I know you've seen me
24:03
get angry. But I don't. I think
24:03
the fact that I'm 17,18 Stone
24:07
stops them from fighting me now.
24:07
I've got gray hair and I'm big
24:11
it actually people think well if
24:11
I beat him I'm gonna be beaten
24:14
up an old man. And if and if and
24:14
obviously he's also 18 Stone so
24:19
you're not hiding to nothing and
24:19
when you do we used to get a lot
24:24
of guys talk to you. Oh, you're
24:24
in the army this? Oh, yeah,
24:29
yeah, I think that will start
24:29
more now but I'm a bit I'm a bit
24:32
small. I've actually decided
24:32
it's time to lose a bit and I'm
24:36
a bit lighter. You know, I would
24:36
say better shape you know,
24:39
smaller waist and everything but
24:39
I'm still 16 and a half stone.
24:42
So there's still like a
24:42
heavyweight boxer. So yeah, you
24:46
know, which is quite shocking
24:46
biggest problems. When
24:47  Trev
I started training. I I
24:47
never had a particular goal. And
24:52
I don't mean as a good thing
24:52
really. But I kind of just
24:55
wanted to get in shape a bit.
24:55
I'd never really quite yet
24:58  Wayne
but there's so much to
24:58
take in isn't there from All you
25:00
had to learn the exercise now
25:00
you can go off and do it on
25:02
yourself. You've built a gym in
25:02
your backyard.
25:05  Trev
Yeah. And you do it
25:05
yourself.
25:08  Wayne
You don't need to know. I
25:09  Trev
do know I do everything.
25:09
So I'm proud of you in a way,
25:12
because you now
25:12  Wayne
I can talk to you about
25:12
weight training, I don't have to
25:16
tell you, I can talk to you
25:16
about it and have a conversation
25:18
about it. And it's it makes
25:18
sense for both of us, which is
25:21
great. You know,
25:23  Trev
we both kind of I
25:23
obviously, because of because
25:26
the way m got into a lot of the
25:26
supplements and stuff because
25:32
you were just protein which I
25:32
still take. I know you don't
25:35
anymore. Do you know, I
25:36  Wayne
still take it? I try? I
25:36
don't take as much I just don't
25:39
Yeah.
25:40  Trev
What were you doing?
25:41  Wayne
I was doing? I was I was
25:41
taking about? Funny enough, I
25:45
actually because moving on in a
25:45
minute, I want to I'm going to
25:47
do be doing test trev And that's
25:47
one of the one of the questions.
25:50
I don't want to preempt that.
25:50
But yeah, that nutrition is
25:54
going to be another, I think,
25:54
another episode of partners
25:57
because it's such a big broad
25:57
subject. And to bring it all
26:00
into today's I think today is
26:00
all about encouraging you guys
26:03
out there that are out kind of
26:03
age in your midlife
26:07  Trev
work. And like every all
26:07
of all of you, everybody. Does
26:11
that kind of New Year new me
26:11
thing? Yes. And yeah. They'd be
26:17
like loads of people don't put
26:17
that pressure on yourself. Don't
26:20
do it, no exactly. And not that.
26:20
And if you are a bit overweight,
26:23
I think people are gonna laugh
26:23
at you damage.
26:27  Wayne
People don't it's people
26:27
expect for you, they'll laugh at
26:30
you for not doing anything,
26:30
because we
26:32  Trev
don't want to do something
26:32
about it. Yeah.
26:34  Wayne
As every little bit that
26:34
gets better in your physique or
26:37
whatever will make give you that
26:37
confidence and other people will
26:40
respect you
26:41  Trev
it there's no, you see a
26:41
guy or a girl? A person that's
26:47
like, start the gym? And then
26:47
then within six months, you see
26:53
how different they look? Or you
26:53
send me a new so looking at
26:56
different that dude looks. Yeah,
26:56
look, it's a good thing that is
27:00
great. You know, cuz you're
27:00
doing and you're achieving
27:02
something is the people that,
27:02
you know, can't be bothered. But
27:06
don't ever think that if you go
27:06
to the gym, and you're
27:09
overweight or anything, people
27:09
are gonna laugh at you because
27:12
they won't, because you're
27:12
physically you've got through
27:15
the door. If there's if there's
27:15
anything.
27:17  Wayne
If you're thinking after
27:17
listening to this, if you're
27:20
thinking of training and you
27:20
think oh, there's so much to
27:23
learn, and you want to expand on
27:23
what we've been talking about,
27:26
go to our website, www dot
27:26
amlopodcast.com. Leave us a
27:31
voicemail or message and we'll
27:31
come back to you and and try and
27:35
encourage you to, to train
27:35
because it's been the single
27:40
biggest thing of my life that
27:40
keeps is constant and keeps me
27:44
sane. Yeah. I can see apart from
27:44
trev
27:47  Trev
line. Yeah, obviously. But
27:47
now it's just another thing that
27:54
I do.
27:57  Wayne
You got too many things
27:57
to define is that it just goes
27:59
to say how sad my life is to be
27:59
honest, man. But I think what I
28:03
should do to to bring you back
28:03
down to earth, is to give you
28:07
the gigbuilder test trail you
28:07
didn't like this bit last week.
28:10
So you done all right. So you
28:10
beat us up. You know, right?
28:12
There's the Star Wars one you
28:12
did. Okay, so be confident. And
28:16
I think it's time to test trev.
28:16
More metal metal. Okay, so Trev
28:26
Are you ready? This is the test
28:26
trailers. suns out guns episode.
28:32
This is this one. I can't see
28:32
you getting but we're trying
28:35
anyway. So that isn't giving you
28:35
confidence. Is it? How many
28:38
Olympia titles did Dorian Yates
28:38
win?
28:42  Trev
I know who dorian yates
28:42
is, You don't know him?
28:46  Wayne
He's the English
28:46
bodybuilder. Oh, so you do know?
28:49  Trev
Yeah, I know him. Yeah.
28:49
That's about it. I
28:54  Wayne
did think it was a bit
28:54
unfair. But I thought I'd bring
28:56
you back down to earth after the
28:56
Star Wars one. Do you know what
28:59
a bad case? It's not right. But
28:59
it's not right. But you're
29:03
close. A bit like catchphrase?
29:03
You're not right. 666 I don't
29:10
know.
29:13  Unknown
Six? Yeah, well,
29:15  Wayne
I think you kind of got a
29:15
you've got a sort of idea
29:18
haven't you. You're not being
29:18
funny.
29:20  Trev
Gone in what was it? is
29:20
six. Oh, he was gonna say six?
29:27  Wayne
I think I think I'm
29:27
giving you that because you were
29:29
close enough. I thought you
29:29
would have said two or
29:31
something. And he's not gonna
29:33  Trev
say six. And I thought
29:33
that's a bit kind of a round
29:37
number. lucky number seven, and
29:37
he tried that one , this is it
29:43  Wayne
So you've got the tough
29:43
one. I'll give you that because
29:46
I think that's fair. Okay,
29:46
Dorian Yates is a great
29:50
champion. six year six wins in a
29:50
row. No one. They used to call
29:53
him the shadow because he used
29:53
to just turn up out the blue on
29:57
the Olympia stage and blow them
29:57
all away and he comes from a gym
29:59
in bed. him he's a great
29:59
champion and he's not really
30:02
revered is no. No, no, there's
30:02
no hype with him and he, you
30:06
know, and I'm sure they wind him
30:06
up because he was he was
30:09
phenomenal bodybuilder for us
30:09
the 90s obviously must have
30:13
taken it seriously be no come
30:13
across like
30:15  Trev
he took it.
30:17  Wayne
Yeah, exactly. To get in
30:17
shape he did. I mean the work he
30:19
put in But anyway, that's that's
30:19
that's another thing if Dorian,
30:22
if you're listening, you come
30:22
and do a podcast with us. We'd
30:25
love to talk to you.
30:27  Trev
Number two, I got the
30:27
question. Right.
30:29  Wayne
Exactly. You got it
30:29
right. What year was pumping
30:32
iron made?
30:34  Trev
seventy six Oh, you're
30:34
close, but not right.
30:48  Wayne
Oh, okay.
30:49
It's 1977 I was just about to
30:49
the Star Wars music to give you
30:52
a bit of a clue. It's a tough
30:52
one. But you know it work. You
30:54
know, it's a 70 area with
30:56  Trev
your sideburns. Let's do a
30:56
half.
30:58  Unknown
Let's give you a half
30:58
for that one. I
31:00  Trev
think I finished the
31:00
sideburns. I was taking this
31:02
fashion in His sight. That's
31:02
exactly you can tell and if
31:05  Wayne
you've not seen it, go
31:05
watch it because it's
31:08
hilariously funny. And it will
31:08
inspire a really good film.
31:12  Unknown
Lou Ferigno is in it.
31:13  Wayne
Yeah, exactly. The Hulk.
31:13
The original Hulk, not the new
31:16
and he's good. Number free.
31:16
Which muscles you should know
31:20
this one. Which muscles do
31:20
deadlifts work? And I'll give it
31:26
I'll give it to you if you get
31:26
the free main ones.
31:30  Trev
Sorry, mine one. Because
31:30
it's somewhere in your legs.
31:34
Somewhere in your legs. I've
31:36  Wayne
figured no more than
31:36
that. Come on. Well, maybe the
31:39
what bits of your legs which
31:39
bits her with loose. Loose yet
31:43
that's one of them. Yeah. They
31:43
probably do as a secondary kind
31:51
of muscle but there's not one of
31:51
the main ones but about the
31:53
things behind your fires.
31:58  Unknown
Oh,
31:59  Wayne
I think with a cold
31:59
something like when you have
32:02
Akin chips and something else
32:02
we're
32:05  Trev
sorry. And strings. Yes,
32:05
hamstrings is one.
32:10  Wayne
That's what you so you
32:10
add. And there's a there's a
32:14
back muscle with the main back
32:14
muscle spam spam. It's no No,
32:18
no. That's not spine arc. That
32:18
latissimus, a bloke out of
32:24
gladiator the movie
32:27
or died a ship. Okay. Well
32:29
we get i think that's that's at
32:29
least half
32:32  Trev
German football.
32:34  Wayne
Yeah, that was fairly
32:34
cool. Yeah. But deadlift, one of
32:43
the core exercises Trevor Dunn
32:43
now does them. I can't do them
32:46
at the moment. But they're a
32:46
great exercise. They also do
32:51
your core, which
32:53  Trev
for getting rid of that.
32:53
And it probably isn't, but you
32:55
seem to have done with before
32:55
getting rid of that middle aged
32:58
spread bit. which we've all got.
32:58
It's your core. Yeah, no, it's
33:01
your core. Hell yeah. No matter
33:01
how much you lose everywhere
33:04
else, you've got that little
33:04
tire there. And that does I
33:07
think that that's just keep your
33:07
shoulders wider.
33:11  Wayne
Yeah, no, it's always be
33:11
it's all of her weakness, man.
33:13
Just get your shoulders wider.
33:13
Just keep doing them your
33:16
shoulder presses.
33:18  Trev
and you can have a 3 foot
33:18
gut?
33:19  Wayne
Exactly. Don't that you
33:19
can have a free full gallon four
33:21
foot shelf. But not before.
33:21
Number four, how many calories
33:28
in a gram of protein? Yeah.
33:28
Yeah, so you when you're working
33:35
out your own macros, you should
33:35
know this one.
33:37  Trev
Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I'm
33:37
always looking at me macros
33:41  Wayne
not the macros the store
33:41
by the way.
33:46  Trev
does it still exist.
33:48  Wayne
I don't know, to be
33:48
honest. Yeah, sorry.
33:51  Trev
Anybody that works on
33:51
macros. Yeah, he's still Yeah,
33:53
I'm sorry. We don't know if you
33:53
exist or not. Yeah, no. That's
33:57
like a bulk buying store, isn't
33:57
it?
33:59  Wayne
But it's not you know,
33:59
it's a low number.
34:02  Trev
I bet it is. Below 20.
34:02
Yes.
34:08  Wayne
Because think about it,
34:08
if he was eating, you know, 100
34:12
grams of protein you'd have to
34:12
you'd have to be within how many
34:15
calories a day sort of average,
34:15
do you know?
34:17  Trev
1500
34:19  Wayne
Well, that's kind of it.
34:19
Yeah. might be for your weight.
34:21
Actually, that would keep you
34:21
probably at your weight now. And
34:24
then you need to add a few
34:24
calories to put on weight or
34:28
understand that it's a bit long
34:28
1500 is very low. It's more like
34:32
a teenager
34:33  Trev
14
34:35  Wayne
it's four but I mean it's
34:35
a technical question. I know
34:38
this because I've been doing it
34:38
for years but
34:39  Trev
because that was one of
34:39
the hardest things I found out
34:42
because I passed out in the
34:42
kitchen.
34:44  Wayne
Yes. Food. This is why
34:44
not eating enough is not good
34:47
because Trev tried to combine
34:47
dieting with weight training. It
34:50
doesn't work because he doesn't
34:50
and he fainted near
34:53  Trev
enough. I did faint in the
34:53
kitchen you're not going to
34:55
really but I will it won't go
34:55
eat work out. You'll
34:59  Wayne
get an app like My
34:59
Fitness Pal, we're not sponsored
35:02
by them via an app. But that did
35:02
me a real trick using what I use
35:06
that and count your calories
35:06
that way and make sure you're
35:09
eating your maintenance. You're
35:09
making sure it's set at least
35:11
Yeah, it makes.
35:12  Trev
Well, don't think I'm
35:12
training. Because as you
35:17
remember you saying to me, it's
35:17
all about your waist size? Yes.
35:20
Exactly. Muscle weighs more than
35:20
fat. Yeah, I couldn't get that
35:24
in my head. Because I've been
35:24
dieting for so long on and off
35:27
that I just couldn't get that. I
35:27
could I couldn't grasp it. took
35:31
me ages to do you get
35:32  Wayne
Anyway, I've proved to
35:32
you now that that works. You
35:35
just did you just need to train
35:35
and eat enough. So the next
35:40
one's a bonus question, really?
35:40
And it's basically number five
35:45
disco muscles or include your
35:45
legs. There's no right or wrong
35:49
answer. It's a trick question.
35:56  Trev
You do the legs, don't
35:56
you? Yeah. I'm gonna say a
36:00
different thing to what you'd
36:00
expect four years ago. This guy?
36:04
muscles? Yes. And did you have
36:04
another pair of trainers? Yes.
36:08
I've still got them here to be.
36:10  Wayne
One of them says disco
36:10
muscles. And the other one says
36:13
skip leg day. Yeah, it was
36:13
inspiration for me not to ever
36:16
do. He was. Yeah. Yeah, you can
36:16
see both sides of the coin.
36:23  Trev
Ah, I can see it now. But
36:23
you'd have to say disco muscles
36:27
at this stage in life.
36:28  Wayne
I think if you're
36:28
starting out now and you're
36:31
listening to us, and you're
36:31
getting inspired to go training,
36:33
which I'd be really shocked
36:33
with. But you know, there you
36:35
go. You never know you never
36:35
know. If you are. Do your legs
36:40
do squats. Do deadlifts do them.
36:40
But
36:43  Trev
if you
36:44  Wayne
if you want I would say
36:44
do something if you don't want
36:47
to do legs and your legs look
36:47
okay, you know you've not got
36:50
legs like drainpipe. Don't
36:50
worry, just just train. What
36:53
shows do your biceps? Do your
36:53
forearms do your shoulders and
36:57
legs.
36:58  Trev
takes it away? Doesn't it?
36:58
Yes. Something else. Exactly.
37:02  Wayne
Yeah, I don't think
37:02
there's a right or wrong answer.
37:05
So is it unfair to say to Trev?
37:05
Like, you've only got two out of
37:09
five. I'm not gonna penalize you
37:09
for that. I'm gonna say you done
37:13
relatively well, you f
37:13
thought about your answers. You
37:13
done? Well, they weren't easy
37:16
questions to be fair.
37:18  Trev
Now. I must admit I
37:18
thought I'd do worse than that.
37:20
Now you done well. So
37:22  Wayne
I think that brings us to
37:22
the conclusion of
37:25  Trev
today's the summary.
37:27  Wayne
The summary. Yep. So is
37:27
bodybuilding training cool for
37:34
middle aged guys to do?
37:34
Definitely.
37:36  Trev
Yeah, definitely. I think
37:36
is I can't think I don't you can
37:39
argue, no,
37:40  Wayne
there's no argument
37:40
anyway, do it. Don't do anything
37:43
else. Don't just run around
37:43
doing 20 mile runs. Because
37:46
you'll look like Mo Farah. And
37:46
it's not. I mean, as much as Mo
37:49
Farah is cool. And Mo if you're
37:49
listening, we'll do a podcast
37:52
with you. But don't want to look
37:52
like if you if you run the hate
37:59
we ask this guy. If you run 20
37:59
miles, you're gonna look like a
38:03
long distance runner. It's not
38:03
It's not. It's great. I mean, I
38:06
admire you. Yeah. But it's not
38:06
cool. Do weights? Do sprints and
38:11
do do cardiovascular but do it
38:11
in a controlled way where it's
38:16
burning fat and keeping your
38:16
cardiovascular system and your
38:19
heart health and your heart.
38:20  Trev
Exactly mentioned there.
38:20
Nice to be honest. I'm missing
38:23
people. Yeah, and to be honest
38:23
with the diet thing. How much
38:27
fried food do you eat? I don't
38:27
know.
38:29  Wayne
I I use them for any
38:29
fried foods. I don't eat fried
38:33
food. I use an airfryer which
38:33
actually doesn't fry actually
38:37
just heats food up. But it
38:37
airfryer so I make you know, it
38:41
doesn't affect that we were kids
38:41
like,
38:43  Trev
you know, going back to
38:43
when we were kids. Everything
38:45
was fried on it. Yeah, it was
38:45
because we didn't know
38:47  Wayne
any different. But the
38:47
other things were healthy. We
38:50
didn't have takeaway joints and
38:50
things like that, do we? So
38:54  Trev
anyway, back to the
38:54
summary. Yes. Yes, it is. Yeah.
38:58
It's cool how we love deep fat
38:58
fryer on the stove. Yes. Oh,
39:04
yeah. No, yeah. No, I think it
39:04
is cool bodybuilding. Not
39:09
forever, not for every body. But
39:09
But those
39:12  Wayne
give you don't sit there
39:12
moaning about things and don't
39:14
don't even go and try. It can
39:14
really change your life if
39:17
you're
39:18  Trev
scared. So don't be scared
39:18
to because people don't laugh at
39:21
you. They don't. They just
39:21
admire you for giving it a go.
39:26
You want to do something? So
39:26
don't don't ever think to
39:28
yourself, or they're gonna laugh
39:28
at me. They're all gonna laugh
39:31
at me. Everyone's gonna start
39:31
sob like we always say, don't
39:34
just criticize something when
39:34
you haven't done it, go
39:36  Wayne
and try and do a taster
39:36
session. They won't even charge
39:39
you go and do it. See how you
39:39
get
39:41  Trev
to be honest as well. You
39:41
meet some really good
39:44  Wayne
people you meet some
39:44
really nice people at the gym
39:46
and be friends for life. You
39:46
know, Trevor Noah has met
39:50
doormen and when we go out we
39:50
don't go out as often now but
39:53
when we go out we get looked
39:53
after when we go to places
39:55
because we know these guys, you
39:55
know, make you improve the
39:59
night. So,

40:05
your life make it becoming part
40:08
of like cleaning your teeth.
40:08
Yeah,
40:10  Trev
that's what I always say.
40:10
It's like cleaning your teeth,
40:12
always said that easy just
40:12
becomes like a what you do your
40:16
breakfast and stuff. Yeah, cuz
40:16
it doesn't feel like a chore
40:20
though it doesn't feel like
40:20
you're going out your way to do
40:22
it. Exactly. It's kind of Yeah,
40:22
that's,
40:24  Wayne
that's where you want to,
40:24
you want to get it. You've tried
40:27
it if you can, if you can just
40:27
do it like that. And you could
40:30
just do it twice a week, twice a
40:30
week, you could get away with
40:33
three is good, great, you know,
40:33
whatever you can do, but do it
40:37
