F.H. Buckley, George Mason School of Law professor and author of The Way Back: Restoring the Promise of America (Encounter Books, 2016), argues the U.S. can borrow from socialism to restore social mobility through capitalism.
When comparing Canada and America, Buckley said their citizens are equally clueless about "what their country is about." On Trump, he said there's a sort of "pious hope that a guy who's played the system can beat it."
But ultimately, Buckley had this to say about the Republican landscape: "I think there's something wrong in placing too much faith in one person to save you. It's not going to be any one of these guys."
Buckley said he'd ultimately like to see Lincoln’s kind of Republicanism reflected in the future of the party; not necessarily a "Make America Great Again" vision, but rather a "We Can All Get Ahead" notion.
