episode 8: "Purpose Over Personal" Coach Chelsea Talks Servant Leadership with Coach Stuart Welch, Head Women's Basketball Coach at Yuba College

Coach Welch enters his 4th year as the Head Coach of the Yuba WBB team. In his third year, Coach Welch delivered the first-ever Conference Championship in Yuba’s history. He was also instrumental in developing the first-ever Conference MVP and the only Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year in the school’s history. Coach Welch has produced seven All-Conference players and the first California State Female Athlete of the Month (Jan. 2020). Coach Welch was named Conference Coach of the Year for the 2019/2020 season in leading Yuba to their Conference crown.

Coach Welch grew up playing basketball in Upstate New York and it was that passion that led him to participate and coach basketball for the past twenty-five years.  After graduating college with an AAS degree and relocating to Oakland California, Coach Welch played one season at Cal State Hayward before joining the Alameda Pro-Am Basketball Tour. While playing on the Pro-Am Tour, Coach Welch had two unsuccessful attempts in trying out for the Golden State Warriors basketball team.  After those two attempts, his playing days concluded and he was hired by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff. While working at the Sheriff’s Department, Coach Welch became the Assistant Coach for the Head Royce Boys Basketball Team for two seasons. After transferring to the Pittsburg Police Department as a Police Officer, Coach Welch continued to coach with the Los Medanos College Men’s Basketball Team.

God truly has ordered his steps and those steps led him to our conversation on the podcast. Tap in as we discuss Faith, Sports and Servant Leadership.
