In „kontrovers katholisch“ geht es um den „Synodalen Weg“. Das ist der Reformprozess der katholischen Kirche in Deutschland, in dem die systemischen Ursachen für sexualisierte Gewalt in der Kirche beseitigt werden sollen. Im Jahr 2018 war durch eine Studie bekannt geworden, dass es von 1946 bis 2014 in Deutschland tausende Fälle sexualisierter Gewalt an Minderjährigen durch katholische Kleriker gegeben hat.
