In response to the Orlando shooting, Haroon Moghul, senior fellow at the Center for Global Policy and the Muslim Leadership Initiative at the Shalom Hartman Institute here in New York, says "under-represented" moderate Muslims need to build and fund alternatives to extremism to combat terrorism.
The "Muslim mainstream" is constantly being forced into a position where it has to condemn acts of terrorism, said Moghul. Instead, it should band together to create institutions that act on true Muslim values.
