Michael Birnbaum, Washington Post Brussels bureau chief, discussed the latest terrorist attack in France, which took place on Thursday during the Bastille Day celebration in Nice, the capital of the French Riviera. The driver drove a large truck through crowds for a mile down a promenade, killing 84 people.
Birnbaum said no terrorist organization has taken credit for the latest attack in Nice, adding, however, that it has taken the Islamic State as much as a day or two to claim involvement in the past.
He also responded to public outcry that police checkpoints could have been more secure.
"Here is someone who has turned a truck into a weapon," said Birnbaum. "It’s very difficult to determine these plots in advance."
