DNC Thursday: #NeverTrump, Maybe Clinton?

We opened our phone lines to Republicans that can't bring themselves to vote for Trump to tell us how they reacted to the speeches at the Democratic National Convention last night. Juan Manuel Benítez, NY1 Noticias reporter and host of Pura Politica and Andrea Bernstein, senior editor for Politics & Policy for WNYC News, join us with their commentary.

Kelly in Sparta, NJ, is a Republican who voted for Sanders in primary. She told us that Clinton should have fired DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Shultz after the email scandal and that Clinton failed a "leadership test."

Assemblyman John Wisniewski, Chair of Bernie Sanders for President (D-NJ), joins us from the convention center to say that the majority of Sanders delegates at the convention are actually unifying behind Clinton, adding that the booing during speeches was overplayed by media.

Elaine Kamarck, senior fellow in the Governance Studies program and director of the Center for Effective Public Management at Brookings and the author of Why Presidents Fail And How They Can Succeed Again (Brookings Institution Press, 2016), reacts to the goings-on in Philadelphia and offers advice for the next president on how to avoid the mistakes of the recent past.
