The Create Unknown

The Create Unknown interviews the most successful online creators to reveal how they got started and how they keep going. iDubbbz. Vsauce. Casey Neistat. iJustine. PsychicPebbles. We talk to the YouTubers, artists, and streamers who exemplify our mantra of “Make Something. Mean Something.” Part high-level analysis, part hopelessly stupid, Kevin Lieber and Matt Tabor from Vsauce2 dissect the complex business, the unpredictable drama, and the uncertain future of creating online. It takes a special kind of mind to be able to look into the past and figure out what *could* have happened, rather than what actually did. A year ago we shared a romantic Valentine’s date with Cody from Alternate History Hub who does exactly that, and this week he’s entering The Create Unknown once again to put those speculative skills to the test.

We begin by traveling back in time, but not as far back as you might think. The last few months have been a bit of a whirlwind for Cody – not only did he become a father, but he’s also been fiercely battling the elements in Texas as they wreak havoc on his home. Despite all that, he’s still been able to stay relatively on track, and he lets us in on just how he does it.

Cody also tells us about his most recent trip to the cinema to see the critically acclaimed “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish,” and how a quick meme he made about the film sparked a whole Twitter saga like he’d never seen before. We dive into the power a joke like that can have, and the insane levels of community that pop up on platforms like this.

We take that idea and put it into the context of the online history community, which Cody knows all too well. We talk about the near-factionalism that appears on both sides of the aisle, their unique meme cultures, and how that has evolved over the years. We take that in a pretty philosophical route, and Matt tells the best joke he might ever make.

This episode, we decided to tackle a pretty big topic: SAVING HUMANITY. In a world that is getting more segmented every day, things can start to look pretty grim. But luckily, Cody has some ideas to fix it. Things like broken personal lives and internet attachment are growing concerns in the modern age, but Cody’s got a pretty positive outlook on it all.

We cap things off with an interesting question from one of our patrons, who wants to know what Cody would collectively gaslight us all about if he had the opportunity to create a Mandela Effect of his own. Then he drops some wisdom on us about what he thinks makes an interesting person, as well as some great advice about making content of your own.

Thanks to everyone who joined us live this week, and a special thank you to our patrons who make this show happen. You guys are the best.

We’ll be back next week for a very special VALENTINE’S EPISODE! We’ll see you then.
