Cascadian Beer Podcast

This is not your average beer show. You won't find consistent beer reviews or the latest opinion gossip about the industry. The Cascadian Beer Podcast is about the people behind the local breweries in the Pacific Northwest. Each episode is dedicated to a single brewery; we profile their history, how they started and their place in the local community. Cascadia is a bio-region in the Pacific Northwest which is made up of the US States of Washington & Oregon, as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia. This is an area that helped kickstart the craft beer industry in North America and has seen tremendous growth in recent years. episode 63: Slackwater Brewing - Penticton, BC

[transcript]

A few months ago in the Spring, I was in Penticton attending and part of the judges panel for Okanagan Fest of Ales. While there I stopped in to say “Hi” to some friends of the podcast who were in the process of opening their own brewery. Like many stories I’ve encountered while making this podcast series, things don’t always go according to plan. The brewery had to change their name for various reasons a few days before my visit...

episode 60: Brewer: Cat Wiest (Pelican Brewpub & Pink Boots Society)

Back in 2017 I went to Denver to attend my first Great American Beer Festival. On my first night there I went to the Pink Boots Society Rare Beer event. That’s where I met Brewer Cat Wiest. At the time she was working in Santa Cruz, but then flicked me a note saying she landed a job in Oregon. During my visit to the Oregon Coast last November I thought I would stop by and catch up with Cat at her new position at the Pelican Brewpub in Pacific City, OR.

Passport: Malbygg Brugghus - Reykjavik, Iceland

I recently took a trip out of Cascadia to explore a new part of the world. I found myself in Iceland where craft beer is starting to take off in the country. Beer above 2% ABV was actually illegal in Iceland until 1989 and on top of that, not much agriculture in the country to speak of. So I was curious to find out how much the craft beer scene has grown in that short amount of time and what sort of challenges are faced in making beer in Iceland...
