Back in 2017 I went to Denver to attend my first Great American Beer Festival. On my first night there I went to the Pink Boots Society Rare Beer event. That’s where I met Brewer Cat Wiest. At the time she was working in Santa Cruz, but then flicked me a note saying she landed a job in Oregon. During my visit to the Oregon Coast last November I thought I would stop by and catch up with Cat at her new position at the Pelican Brewpub in Pacific City, OR.
Last summer I was lucky to explore the Northern Part of our province along Highway 16. I spent some time in Smithers, BC. A place that has seen rapid change in recent years. Smithers is not home to just one, but two breweries! One of them being Bulkley Valley Brewery.

I sat down with Board President Austin Rood and Brewmaster Kevin Forhan.
I've made a stop in the interior of British Columbia in a community called Kamloops. This region has seen a major boom in craft beer in recent years with a number of breweries and pub opening. Located in downtown Vernon BC, Marten Brewery and Pub open their doors in 2015. Voted as one of British Columbia’s Best tasting rooms, the space is large and open with the brewery visible from almost every vantage point in the pub. Recently, the team has started creating things other than beer with their Kombucha brand UnderGround Beverages. I sat down with owner Stefan Marten and brewmaster Joe Strickland.
On a weekend trip to the Yakima Valley to witness the start of this year's hop harvest. I was fortunate to meet a lot of people in the beer community there. One of them being Varietal Brewing from Sunnyside, WA. Founded in 2006, they have been a great addition to their local community. I sat down with Co-Owner & Brewer, Chris Baum.
