Opening tracks can be deceiving, but as soon as the beautiful, delicate sounds of Swedish Congolese artist Vumbi Dekula have drifted into field recordings of bees, things turn a little nastier, with Infested Monastery and the latest from Moonworshipper’s Arcanist.

Elsewhere there is fabulous jazz from Armenia, metal from Kazakhstan, industrial noise from Barcelona, didgeridoo drone, ghost stories from Finland and a whole lot more.

We're taking a break this week, so we're going way back to 2017 and our first favourites of that year...

Phoar, what a scorcher! It’s a hot box in the studio and hot on the sounds as well. Kicking off with a remarkable track from Matmos, who use the sounds of the Mud-Dauber Wasp to create a thumping electronic banger. We move through various degrees of ferociousness, with Nihiloxica, Gazelle Twin, and Lila Tirando a Violeta and Sin Maldita bringing hefty fire...
