The NBA's trade deadline is approaching. Are the Lakers in position to improve?
Sitting three games under .500, there are only a couple ways for the Lakers to improve as a team over the final 30ish games of the season. First, get everyone back on the floor and playing together. Specifically, LeBron James with Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook, and see if the team can harness enough star power to paper over their other issues. The second? Make moves ahead of the February 10th trade deadline...
The Kamenetzkys Discuss the Lakers' loss to the Hawks, Anthony Davis, LeBron James and more.
The Lakers concluded their six game road trip, and keeping with the theme of this season, things didn't shake out as hoped. A double digit lead against the Atlanta Hawks wasn't protected, resulting in a 129-121 loss. Malik Monk put up a monster 33 points. Anthony Davis continued his strong stretch of games with 27 points, five rebounds, four assists and a few strong plays defensively. Russell Westbrook had 20 points, twelve assists and just four turnovers...
A valiant effort, sure, but the shorthanded Lakers couldn't quite pull the upset against the Hornets
In another season with better karma, maybe Russell Westbrook's potential game-winner Friday night against the Hornets goes in. Maybe the Lakers pull the upset, and pick up an inspirational, unexpected win on a night where LeBron James and Anthony Davis were both in street clothes. But not this year. This year, the Lakers went out, shorthanded, fell behind early and made a good run at the end, but Westbrook's last-second three clanged off the rim, and the Lakers lose...
The Lakers just can't keep the band together. Two nights after the team's Big Three of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook FINALLY got on the floor together after six-ish weeks of waiting, the grand experiment was again put on hold Thursday in Philly. LeBron James woke up with a sore left knee and couldn't suit up against the Sixers. Anthony Davis played, and played perhaps his best game of the year, but it wasn't enough to overcome a solid Philly squad...
Another night where the Big Three aren't on the floor together, and another dip below .500...
As the Lakers enter a critical stage of the season, they lock up a newly important member of the rotation
It's been a struggle all season for the Lakers to find supporting players to put around their Big 3 (it's been a struggle to keep the Big 3 on the floor, too, but that's a different story). Kent Bazemore, Wayne Ellington, and Trevor Ariza have all been ineffective. DeAndre Jordan, too. Kendrick Nunn is yet to play. A bright spot, though, has been the pickup of Stanley Johnson, who has brought badly needed athleticism on the defensive end, and quickly become a favorite of Frank Vogel...
