It's the newest installment of the NBA's most storied rivalry, but the teams are in very different places.
The Lakers needed a win Sunday to finish off their first extended road trip at 3-3, and behind strong performances from Anthony Davis (34/15/7/2/1) and LeBron James (35/5/5, plus a steal), who combined to shoot 26-42 from the floor as L.A. knocked off Detroit 123-117. They left town four games under .500, and return four games under .500. That was a fair goal before the trip started.....
Meanwhile, Westbrook sits the entire fourth quarter...
With Anthony Davis in foul trouble and LeBron James struggling in the fourth quarter, the Lakers didn't deserve to win Friday night in Philadelphia, but the Sixers tried really hard to give it to them, anyway. Unfortunately, they refused to accept, and lost 133-122 in overtime. Anthony Davis was incredible in the fourth quarter, but missed a free throw to win at the end of regulation. Austin Reaves missed a critical free throw down the stretch as well...

Plus, expecting big stuff from Anthony Davis vs. Joel Embiid Friday night
The Lakers were missing LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Patrick Beverley and Wenyen Gabriel Wednesday in Toronto. Juan Toscano-Anderson, who started the game after barely hitting the court for most of the season, turned an ankle. So it's no surprise the Lakers found themselves down by 20 (give or take) relatively quickly, and for most of the game before ultimately losing by 13, 126-113...
Do the Lakers have to avoid the temptation of short-term thinking?
Eight minutes into Tuesday's game in Cleveland, Anthony Davis went to the locker room. Surely most Lakers fans freaked out, given AD's injury history, but this turned out to be (relatively) benign - flu like symptoms. Davis apparently had a 101-degree fever. Nothing that should keep him out long-term. That said, when Davis left the game, the Lakers chances of winning diminished significantly, especially with Wenyen Gabriel out as well (shoulder)...
