Today’s Web 2.0 relies on large corporations to store and distribute information, leading to problems like data leaks, behavior manipulation, and surveillance. A new wave of networking technologies, aka Web 3.0, promises to return the internet to the hands of users. In this talk, we'll review the current issues and how we can build a better web.

Das Zukunftspotential neuer Technologien wird häufig falsch eingeschätzt – vor allem von Menschen, die täglich damit zu tun haben. Der Hauptgrund: Zu oft werden kulturelle und gesellschaftliche Voraussetzungen, die bei der Akzeptanz und Adaption neuer Technologien eine Rolle spielen, völlig ignoriert. Anhand zahlreicher Beispiele aus der Praxis wird erklärt, wie wir lernen, das Zukunftspotenzial neuer Technologien besser einzuschätzen.

Do-it-yourself (DIY) aerial photography using kites/balloons is as old as photography itself - and despite the commercial drone boom, it hasn’t lost its relevance. In this talk I share visual experiments from Jerusalem’s contested urban space, in which a drone flight can sketch out forms of corporate and governmental control that are otherwise invisible; and DIY aerial photography can become a valuable tool for producing testimonies that are created by the abused rather than by distant experts.

Data is not only a tool but also an infrastructure critical to social and economic development. Discussing the example of open voice data collection in Rwanda, we will explore possibilities to build community-owned data infrastructure, which allows for local value creation, inclusive technology and ultimately reclaims digital sovereignty.
