International students are quitting the cleaning industry in droves and it has sparked fears of Covid-19 outbreaks in offices and hotels in Australia. Students, who constitute 30 per cent of the cleaning workforce, are opting for sectors such as hospitality and tourism where they are allowed to work more than 40 hours.

Australia allows return of Biloela Tamil family, but says it's 'not a pathway to a visa'


Immigration Minister Alex Hawke on Tuesday allowed the Biloela Tamil family to return to the Australian mainland following almost two years of detention on Christmas Island. They will reside in suburban Perth through a placement close to schools and support services. Mr Hawke said today's 'decision doesn't create a pathway to visa.' He reiterated his government's stand that anyone arriving illegally by boat will not be resettled permanently in Australia...

Meet Dr Santosh Kumar, an Indian-Australian awardee from the Queen's Birthday Honours List


Indian-Australian Dr Santosh Kumar, 85, has been awarded the Medal of Order of Australia for his outstanding service to the Indian community of Victoria. Dr Kumar took up the cause of seniors after he retired from academics in 2001. He highlighted the under-utilization of seniors in the workforce in Australia and across the globe. Dr Kumar creates work opportunities and engages seniors in purposeful work that gives them satisfaction.
