Happy Pride! To celebrate, we're venturing a little off the usual path here at Still Buff to look at all the fictional characters throughout our young lives that showed us how to understand our own identities...or that we just thought were really pretty.
Sydnee finally convinced her siblings to watch one of her all time favorite teen dramas: Dawson's Creek. We're headed to Capeside this week to explore this ridiculously dramatic town full of teens with unusually large vocabularies...because we don't wanna wait, for our lives to be over....
(A feed drop of our fellow MaxFun show: FANTI) This week, Tre’vell and Jarrett move slightly away from format to discuss the recent events surrounding a Minneapolis, Minnesota man killed while in police custody and the civil unrest as a result of the department’s handling of the case. Plus, special guest Dr. Joy DeGruy joins the show!
Some tweens were Harry Potter kids, some were Twilight kids, but Rileigh was always a Hunger Games kid, through and through. So, of course she has to make both of her sisters revisit her favorite series and all about what makes it so great. Also, parallel universes?
We all know and love that smart, sarcastic, brunette girl from our favorite early 2000s cartoon, so let's talk about her and all her friends, and maybe some of the important lessons we all learned from some of her flaws.
We've finally reached Sydnee's favorite movie/book/thing of literally all time, so what else is there to say? Let's get to it, shall we?
Rileigh has always been a sucker for some good satirical, musical comedy, so of course she wants to introduce her sisters to Crazy Ex-Girlfriend! It's got the best songs, the funniest scenes, and some of the most complex characters on television. Thanks Rachel Bloom! Also, SPOILERS, duh
Fiona Apple was a favorite artist of both Sydnee and Teylor back in the day, despite her "angsty piano playing," as some have described it. To make her music even more perfect for this podcast, she's come back just this year with a new album! An artist who spans generations for a podcast that spans generations, perfect!! TW: Brief mention of experience with sexual assault
Sydnee has always loved this movie, and to be fair, Teylor and Rileigh like it too. But Sydnee couldn't figure out why it got so much hate and bad reviews when it came out nearly two decades ago. Now, after watching the trailer together and voicing the plot out loud over the course of this episode...maybe we see why.
We played the animal game. What else do you need to know to listen?
