Eddie Andrews - Specialised weed harvester now patrolling Rietvlei


The Deputy Mayor of Cape Town chats to us about Otter, the new specialised weed harvester for Rietvlei which is a major boost for the environmental management of this waterbody. This is the second of three new specialised vessels that the City is delivering for recreational vleis, following Zandvlei’s weed harvester delivery in December 2023, with a second vessel for that vlei scheduled for 2025.

Julia Wood - A Hippo in the City - 1 May 2024


The City has its very own pod of Common Hippo's that has called the Rondevlei section of the False Bay Nature Reserve home since 1981. They are currently planning the relocation of a young male to protect him from the pod’s dominant male. This is the same young male that trended on social media platforms when he escaped from Rondevlei in the early morning hours of Saturday, 13 April 2024, to evade the dominant male.
