After Jacob’s family settled in the Canaanite city of Shechem, Leah’s daughter Dinah decided to explore the city. She went on her own into the city to meet other young women, but when Shechem, prince of the country, saw her, he fell in love with her. He brought her to the palace and had his way with her. He then asked his father to get her for his wife.

What Shechem did was wrong, but what the brothers did was worse. They knew what they were doing was evil...

Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse died and was buried under a terebinth tree in Bethel, and the tree was called Allon Bachuth, which means “oak of weeping”. 

The family continued journeying, this time to Ephrath, or Bethlehem, but Rachel was pregnant and went into labor during their travel. The midwife tried to comfort her saying, “ “Do not fear, for you have another son.” But Rachel didn’t make it...

We first met Bilhah in Genesis 29:29 when Rachel married Jacob, and Laban gave her Bilhah as her handmaiden.

When Leah had son after son, and Rachel remained barren, Rachel first blamed Jacob for her lack of children. Then she offered him Bilhah as a surrogate wife so that she could bear children through her servant.

Once Rachel bore her own son, Bilhah slipped into the background until after Rachel’s death when Jacob’s son Reuben lay with Bilhah...

Genesis 36 gives an account of Esau’s family including his wives Basemath, Adah, and Aholibamath, and his son’s concubine Timna. Adah and Aholibamath were Esau’s first wives who brought grief to his parents. Their names were changed, though, when they married. Soon after Judah and his brothers sold Joseph into slavery, Judah left home and visited Hirah, an Adullamite. While there, Judah met a Canaanite woman, the daughter of Shua, and he married her. 

The Bible gives us no details about the daughter of Shua other than she was a Canaanite, so Judah should not have married her. Her father’s name, Shua, means wealth. Perhaps Judah was attracted to their riches and wanted to attach himself to the wealthy family...
