What on earth is perfection? Well, David and Joe have the perfect person to ask as they’re joined by professor, author and perfectionism specialist Thomas Curran. His latest book The Perfection Trap explores ‘the impossibly high expectations that stand in the way of health, happiness, and success’. Which all sounds very familiar to David and Joe - so they’re hoping Thomas can help them out. It’s an explosive start to the show as David and Joe are both tired, unmotivated and moaning about their achilles tendons. But then they remember Joe has a new book coming out, which they talk about until TV Joe arrives. They chat with him about not exercising, matinee performances and Chatabix holograms before moving onto the main event - TV reviews, song name games and trivia quizzes! Well, that’s until David’s TV aerial man arrives and disrupts things considerably...
First up, David and Joe discuss how to pronounce an old friend’s surname and make an attempt to swear less on the pod. Then the chat turns to David’s recent holiday spent hiking in Cornwall with his eldest son. He recounts their journey ‘step-by-step’ from Kingsand to Mevagissey via Polperro, including all the pre-planning details and extensive list of kit he bought (and some he forgot!). Then they get a voicemail update which seems like the perfect point to end the show...
Star of stage and screen Russell Tovey is today’s very special guest. Joe and David immediately take the opportunity to ask Russell how to be good at acting and he suggests all three of them have imposter syndrome. They discuss filming Him And Her, learning lines, overcoming nerves, lying on your résumé and having to have stunt double legs. They also talk about art and how to enjoy making it, which makes David awkward but Joe pulls out his parrot painting...
Our favourite national treasure Natalie Cassidy is back on the pod, but David’s had a late night and is really tired. So they kick things off chatting about napping, snoring, bed times and eye masks too. Moving on from sleep, Nat suggests a wonderful idea for a Chatabix Christmas party, tells them about a traumatic experience she had presenting This Morning, has some visitors in her garden and sends over a copy of her poem to read out at the end of the show...
Joe thinks the world of scamming would be a great topic to discuss but David’s not really interest. So they quickly move onto television - programs they’ve seen recently, wanting to watch things live and struggling with too much choice. But then David remembers he hasn’t finished telling Joe about his Devon hiking holiday - and picks up where he left off last week. We may or may not get to the end of this tale… Follow Chatabix on Twitter & Instagram: twitter.com/chatabix1 www.instagram...
Joe’s lined up another surprise guest for David, so he’s back in the spinny chair and really feeling the nerves again. As usual, he desperately tries to guess who it’ll be and this time, after so many failed attempts, may actually have got it right?! Stay tuned to find out who the extra special guest is - so special in fact that we had to make it a two parter. Follow Chatabix on Twitter & Instagram: twitter.com/chatabix1 www.instagram...
It’s David’s turn to go on location for the pod and in spite of the very shaky G4 signal, he’s talking Joe to one of his favourite places - Dartmoor. Starting off at Widecombe in the Moor, he jumps in the Beech Bomber (or should that be Moor Bomber?) and heads to one of Dartmoor’s most famous landmarks, the Haytor Rocks. There he plans to hike up to the top of the hill and show Joe the spectacular views. Beautiful! Follow Chatabix on Twitter & Instagram: twitter.com/chatabix1 www.instagram...
Off to a flying start, Joe has returned from holiday complaining about his ailments and then has trouble with his wifi booster. They talk about a recent visit to Spotify HQ, meeting Ben Foster and how nice the pulled pork was. David's intent on telling Joe about his window cleaning expertise again and when to use a chamois or a squeegee. They ponder over why they're not very snappy at podcasting and reflect on an old interview with James Acaster. They put it down to having slow brain speeds...
