This was the first armed attack led by Fidel Castro against the Batista government after the1952 coup by Batista. The attack failed miserably with 25 people killed in the attack itself and an additional 54 of the revolutionaries summarily rounded up and murdered shortly afterward. Fidel Castro escaped into the mountains but was subsequently apprehended and brought to trial...
