Happy International Women's Day! With every episode dedicated to celebrating women in the arts, we couldn't be happier to continue doing what we do. In this episode, we went a little of a different route and decided to talk about our "journey" to where we are now within the arts.
In this episode, we talk about the Guerrilla Girls, the anonymous group of women known for their protest art devoted to fighting racism and sexism in the art world. The group formed in the 1980s to campaign for changes that needed to be made.
In this episode, we highlight some of the ideal couples from different periods throughout all of the arts. We talk about the tumultuous, but the still aspirational relationship of Deigo Riveria and Frida Khalo, the ADORABLE life-long love between Johnny Cash and June Carter, and some other artists and celebrity couples we can't get enough of.
In this episode, we introduce a gem of the Harlem Renaissance, Nora Holt! Holt was an American singer, composer, and music critic, who was born in Kansas and was actually the first African American to receive a master's degree in the United States.
Slight Trigger: We do discuss a very unhappy and an emotionally abusive marriage. In this BONUS episode, we expand on Margaret Keane's insane story of her husband taking credit for her work for many many years that resulted in a lawsuit and a paint-off in the courtroom to prove she was the real artist.
In this episode, we talk about some of the art/historic couples that were not very lucky when it came to sexism within their marriage. We start off with a brief discussion about a scientist duo, Albert Einstein, and his wife Mileva Marić Einstein.
In this episode, we discuss Gail Anderson, a graphic designer, writer, and educator. Gail Anderson is by far one of the most notable black graphic designers and is responsible for continuing to push the design career field forward into what it is today. We talk a lot about the short history of graphic design, its many issues with diversity, Gail Anderson's life, career, legacy and more.
In this episode, we discuss Tamara de Lempicka, the main artist of the art deco movement whose self-portrait in a green Bugatti was famously on the cover of Die Dame, a Paris fashion magazine. We discuss her early life, her family, her infamous partying among the elite, and her impressive career and legacy.
In the episode, Sadie and Stauney are joined by Becky Willard, owner, and producer of Vox Fox Productions! Becky shares how she started producing music, her tops tips for future music producers or artists working with a producer for the first time, what it's like being a female music producer, and more!
In this episode, Stauney and Sadie dive into the history of the word 'muse,' the nine muses of Greek Mythology, and how the idea of a muse has changed over time. We are obviously not Greek Mythology experts, but we hope you enjoy this nice conversation as we talk more about how women are viewed in different periods of time...
