For International Women's Day we speak to Ashti Ibrahim-Afendi, a writer and former female Peshmerga. Ms Ibrahim-Afendi has been leaving in Australia for around 20 years with her family, she was one of the few female Peshmergas in the Kurdish arm struggle against Saadam's Baathist regime in the early 1980s. In this interview we ask her about her personal experiences as well as her view about Kurdish women's role in today's society in different part of Kurdistan as well as in the diaspora...

Several rallies were held to condemn the Turkish military operation in the Kurdish enclave of Afrin in northern Syria. The last of which was in Canberra, where Kurdish Lobby Australia delivered several letters to the government asking them to condemn the operation carried out by the Turkish government.

An Australian Kurd, Ali Zeyto resettled back in the Kurdish Capital Erbil and in the last two years he has worked on a new project that is unprecedented in the region. Mr Zeyto now sells authentic Kurdistani souvenirs for travelers, expats, and locals to cherish. Called Dyari Kurdistan or "a gift from Kurdistan" uses traditional iconic designs presented in a modern way. Mr Zeyto plans on expanding this project to other regions and cities of Kurdistan as well as abroad...

Mardin Faraji a volunteer from Bokan, in East Kurdistan (Iran) has arrived in the earthquake affected regions of Kermanshah (Kirmashan) province, to help with the rescue mission and help the survivors. Mr Faraji says that the people are in dire need and the government's efforts have been slow and inefficient. There are reports that three people have already frozen to death in the cold night temperatures as most sleep out in the open...

Same-sex marriage campaigners are celebrating the historic 'Yes' vote in favour of legalising same-sex marriage in the government's voluntary postal survey. Kurdish activist and the editor-in-chief of the Australian Arabic news paper Al-Furat, Hussain Khoshnow is working on bringing an Australian citizen, Ahmed Al-Asadi, allegedly a spokes person for the Iran-backed Shiia militia, known as the Popular Mobilisation Force (PMF) to the attention of authorities and human rights organisations in Australia.
