The Federal Government has settled on a compromise package for its backpacker tax. It has agreed to drop the rate to 19 per cent from the first dollar backpackers earn, rather than its proposed 32.5 per cent. 

รัฐบาลออสเตรเลียตกลงจะเก็บภาษีผู้ทำงานวีซ่า working holiday จากเดิมที่เคยเสนอร้อยละ 32.5 เหลือ ร้อยละ 19  

Tiparat Tikapunya, a Phd Candidate from Queensland University, told us about her research on three newly discovered varieties of Australian native wild rice and their promising potentials for commercial production.  -

Saowarak Srisukkho, a Japanese teacher at primary schools in Perth, explained about foreign language learning in Australian schools. She told us why she tried to encourage student engagement through learning both the language and the culture at the same time.  -

Dr.Sopha Cole explained about her new Thai language and culture centre in Victoria, which will launch a pilot project at Thai Temple in Box Hill soon. Dr.Cole worked on the development of curriculum for Thai LOTE for the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).   -

Language learning in Australia is dropping. In the 1960s 40 per cent of Year 12 students studied a second language compared to 12 per cent in 2007. SBS and Community Languages Australia have created a competition to encourage more young Australians to learn another language.  -
