Shasta Serenade: April 2, 2016

This week I’m playing new music from Kelly McRae’s album, “The Wayside,” due out April 7, and a new release from Andy Ferrell, “At Home and in Nashville.” There are a number of concerts coming to the North State and I’ll play a few tunes from those folks in the hopes it spurs you into going out and supporting live music. Hope you’ll tune in to the Shasta Serenade and join us for two hours of eclectic Americana music. See you at the music, Barry.

Shasta Serenade: March 19th, 2016

This week on The Shasta Serenade, I have some birthdays to celebrate - John Sebastian and Townes Van Zandt. I also play some oldies from Leon Redbone, Tom Ball & Kenny Sultan and others. I continue to play selections from Loretta Lynn’s and Willie Nelson’s new albums and talk about Boz Skaggs channeling the New Orleans sound with the title cut from his newest release, “Fool to Care.” I play Randy Travis’ first #1 hit and discuss his continuing recovery from a major stroke in 2013. Shasta Serenade: March 12th, 2016

On this week’s show I’m playing a couple of cuts from Vince Gill’s new album, “Down to My Last Bad Habit.” And I continue with Bay Area great Kathy Kallick from her #1 album on the Roots Music Report, “Foxhound.” Laurie Lewis and the Right Hands have a new album out that has been getting rave reviews too – “The Hazel & Alice Sessions.” It’s their tribute to Hazel Dickens and Alice Gerrard from their ground-breaking recordings. You will also hear from The Cox Family, The Gibson Brothers,

Shasta Serenade: March 5th, 2016

This week on the Shasta Serenade I’m into octogenarians; two 80+ year-olds have released new albums to very positive reviews – and I definitely agree they are way cool music. Eighty-three-year-old Loretta Lynn released ‘’Full Circle,’’ and 82-year-old Willie Nelson released his tribute to George Gershwin, ‘’Summertime.’’ I’ll be playing several cuts from each of their albums, plus new music from Washington’s Rabbit Wilde and many more.

Rock-A-Barry Weekend

It’s the last weekend of February and the Shasta Serenade morphs into the Rock-a-Barry Weekend show. This month I play the 1960 Grammy winner for song of the year by Percy Faith, and the second #1 hit by Connie Francis in that same year. Can you guess Connie’s first hit of 1960? I’ll tell you during the show. Then I swing back to 1956 with one of the greatest vocalists of the 20th century, (Sassy) Sarah Vaughn, and follow with The Platters ’55 hit, “Only You.” From about 1950 to ‘58 Les Paul
