What a year it has been for us at WoHo Central!
We produced 30 shows this year, and Mac and I hosted 22. This episode we look back, evaluate, reevaluate, and reconsider what we enjoyed and did not enjoy last year.
Mom's memory being what it is, here are some things discussed on the pod, plus the whole catalog of movies from 2023.
From our hearts to yours, we hope you had a wonderful year and we look forward to another one with you...
WoHos!
For the last main show of 2023, we look at two movies about vampires: SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE from the US and RIGOR MORTIS from Hong Kong.
Mom & Mac Chat: Names that drive up the wall, kids today, being too attached to our phone. Also, Mom is (Internet) autistic.
Mac liked SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE a whole lot because of the performances. Mom liked RIGOR MORTIS a lot because of the cool fight scenes and some of the folklore, confusing as it was...

If you've ever wanted to know what would happen when you get three ADD brains together to discuss a 40-year-old Cronenberg classic, you have come to the right place!
Stefan MacDonald joined Mac and me to discuss a movie close to all of our hearts: VIDEODROME!
We had a lovely ramble, and I hope you enjoy it!
Even though I am sober, you can make a fun drinking game out of how many times I say...
This week we looked at the cult classic, STARSHIP TROOPERS, which is a flick Mom can't believe she never saw. We both loved this one a ton.
We also looked at the low-budget gem, SLASH/BACK, from Canada, which talks about the friendship girls share as well as some aliens who land in a small Nunavut town. Mom went gaga for the scenery in this one.
There is lots of waffle up top in this one. If you want to jump to the movie talk, that starts at 26:18...

Our friend Martin Harries from the Film Vs. Film podcast joined us to share a film that Means The World of Horror™ to him: DR. TERROR'S HOUSE OF HORRORS, which is the first portmanteau film from Amicus Studios.
From IMDb: Aboard a British train, mysterious fortune teller Dr. Schreck uses tarot cards to read the futures of five fellow passengers...

This week we looked at two movies related to Ghosts: POLTERGEIST (1982) & THE OTHERS.
POLTERGEIST deals with the sins of capitalism and consumerism in the guise of some disruptove ghosties. Mac enjoyed this more than I did. I felt super sad at the depiction of the teenage daughter as an object of sexual attention and nothing much else.
Strong performances by JoBeth Williams, Beatrice Straight, Zelda Rubenstein, and Craig T...

Mac's picks this week involve animated horror. We reviewed WENDELL & WILD from the US and UNICORN WARS from Spain & France.
Both deal with deep emotional issues and neither are appropriate for young children. Mac wonders if UNICORN WARS is appropriate for some adults!
Next time we are looking at movies involving haunted houses. We will be looking at THE OTHERS from Spain & POLTERGEIST 1982 from the US...

Oh, what a fun film this is! This week Stefan MacDonald of Terminal Burrower Films and Drag Mitch to Hell joins me to discuss this mutual fave.
Stacy Keach and Jamie Lee Curtis in Australia hunting a serial killer in an 18-wheeler? Yes, Please! Throw in a good boy doing a serviceable dingo impression and some sweet suspense, and you've got yourself a good time...
WoHos!
This week we are joined by our friends, Georgia and John Macey from the Comfort Films Podcast to examine two masterclasses in suspense, THE WAGES OF FEAR & SORCERER.
We examine the real horror, which is, of course, capitalism, in both these films...

This week we look at two films that involve writers. Both have killer soundtracks. IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS has great effects. BURNING has great cinematography. IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS has a sweet runtime, BURNING has a Korean cinema-length runtime. Both have excellent performances and fun themes...
