episode 16: Jesus Christ in the Torah with Jason Richards - Part ONE - GENESIS

For those who may not know: What is the Torah?

There is a red river of redemption that begins to flow in the book of Genesis and flows all the way through to the book of Revelation.

Colossians 2:17 (speaking of the OT) - These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ.

The Old Testament is a book of shadows that point to New Testament truths.

A shadow must have light and something to shine upon, correct?

Yes. The light is the Old Testament Scripture.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the one upon whom the shadow shines.

Let’s talk about Biblical Evangelism - I have 2 questions :

What are some biblical methods to compel people to come to Christ?

What are some practical and effective ways to bring people to Christ?

You may think that these two questions are mutually exclusive and that the answers are different but they are actually two questions with the same answer.

Joel Osteen may bring some practical and effective ways to get the seats in his church filled but he is not bringing people to Christ.

The apostles in the book of Acts give us our template that teaches us how we are to compel people to come to Christ.

What did they do? They testified to the resurrection of Christ and testified to his fulfillment of OT prophecy.

Luke 24:25-27, 44-47 And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.

44-47 Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

John 5:45-47 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope. 46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of Me. 47 But I if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”

So that is sufficient for us to see that Jesus has said that prophecies and shadows of him are found even in the books of Moses.

But where?

What passages would we go to in order to show Jesus if we were only to go to the first 5 books of the Bible?

Genesis 3:14-15 The LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”

Now everyone say “Protoevangellion”

Now everyone say, “he didn't say it right”.

This is just a transliterated word that comes from the two Greek words for first and gospel.

What is the difference between a transliterated word and a translated word?

Heb 2:14 ISV Therefore, since the children have flesh and blood, he himself also shared the same things, so that by his death he might destroy the one who has the power of death (that is, the devil)
