episode 2: The Breaking

Dan, Ethan, Jack, and Mark discuss social, economic, and political collapse in this highly-anticipated second episode (we were going to talk about recovering from collapse, but we really only talked about an overview of collapse, and some priorities on preparing for it. Recovery will need to be a future episode). Points of discussion include:

  • An overview of collapse (market collapse, soft political collapse, and hard social collapse).
  • The difference between collapse and authoritarian regime, and the possible future of our system.
  • Agenda’s for islands of authoritarian order within a greater collapse: Agenda 2030, 15 minute city, WEF (Davos Group), etc.
  • The waning effectiveness of the U.S. Military.
  • The breaking of the human psyche.
  • Car-less inner city life, and the interstate exodus.
  • The concept of the preparation checklist.
  • Life in the interim: the balance of societal involvement, and working in society when the crisis is not fully emergent to possibly avoid the crisis entirely.
  • Self sufficiency at a trustworthy scale.
  • Emergent crisis versus looming crisis: don't drink the Kool-Aid.
  • Improving personal skills. It can help in collapse, and today.
  • The Next Prep: Multiplanetary (AKA, us getting into the weeds).
  • Slowly becoming mentally tougher, and setting your convictions.

Corrections:

  • Ethan implied that France, Brazil, and many South American countries were technically enemies of the USA for using a Chinese and Russian backed economic system. He was really meaning Russia and China themselves being the enemies.
  • Dan said six Soviet submarines were deployed; that would be six Russian submarines.
  • Ethan called the surrounding agricultural countryside of an ancient Greek city an “Agora”, but the correct word is “Agros”. An agora is the public square of an ancient Greek city. Minus another point for Ethan.
  • A Bonneville is a Pontiac, not a Chevy. Minus a point for Jack.

Notes and Links:

  • Six Russian nuclear submarines and naval fleet conduct Pacific drills.
  • Why our generals were more successful in World War II than in Korea, Vietnam or Iraq/Afghanistan.
  • The firing of military officers under Obama.
  • Obviously, the stated purpose of the 15-minute city is not nefarious. We are just considering the possible dangerous ramifications of it, as well as the possible underpinned goals of it. People are in the process of moving away from large cities in America, so the idea of implementing a plan to have most folks as cyclists and pedestrians is scary since it removes their ability to take part in this mass exodus.
  • U.S. Census Bureau article detailing the migrations in 2021.
  • U.S. Census Bureau map of net domestic migration by county from 2021 to 2022.
  • Confession: Ethan was the one that burned his own car engine by running it with the oil light on. We all know it.
