Students from Sir John Lawes School visited local Thrales End Farm and Rothamsted Research to help them learn about the problem that slugs pose to farmers and possible solutions. They then developed and presented solutions of their own. The challenge was the brain child of the charity Farming and Countrysie Education and it is hoped that similar projects will now be rolled out around the country.
If you’re plagued by slugs you might like to know that on Saturday 30th July 10.30am – 12.30pm Hammonds End Farm, Harpenden AL5 2AY FoodSmiles St Albans are organising an introduction to organic pest control for vegetable growers. As well as covering some of the most common / damaging pests and ways to minimise their impact, the session will look at growing to reduce damage more generally.
FoodSmiles St Albans is a Community Farming Group based in Harpenden. With 30 members who have joined the group for: organic produce, physical exercise and fresh air, to learn new skills, social and community interaction.
