episode 47: Psalms Chapters 110 - 112: Bible Study for Atheists

Husband and Wife cover Psalms 110 - 112

Psalm 110: The LORD Gives Dominion to the King. Starts, "The LORD said unto my Lord." Psalm 110 is the most frequently quoted or referenced psalm in the New Testament due to its weird phrasing that Christians point to as proof of the plurality of the God / Jesus. Jewish sources are a lot more chill about the whole thing and state that the subject of the psalm is either Abraham, David, or the Jewish Messiah. You know, OT people. Because it's the OT. This psalm is recited as a prayer of protection to achieve peace with enemies, if by "peace" you mean "heaping up the dead" because murder is always how one attains that zen state.

Psalm 111: The LORD's Care for His People. Starts, "Praise ye the LORD. I will praise the LORD with my whole heart." This super short psalm is an acrostic, and honestly, I don't remember what it's about because Wife went on a ridiculously lengthy rant about people being way too overly concerned with her crotch. She's not wrong.

Psalm 112: The Prosperity of Him Who Fears the LORD. Starts, "Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD." This is yet another acrostic and OOPS, there's another rant, but this time, it's about how we should be feeding the poor and needy.
