This week we had the chance to speak with the always game Congressman Ro Khanna. There was a lot to get into! Congressman Khanna has emerged as a leading elected critic of the Biden administration’s slow and incremental approach to student debt relief in the wake of a Supreme Court Ruling which struck down their initial efforts. Biden is continuing to push forward, pursuing another avenue for debt relief using the Higher Education Act, however he’s chosen a lengthy approach which will delay any potential relief for years. This comes as student debt payments, which were in forbearance during the pandemic, are set to restart with potential devastating consequences for the economy and personal finances.

At the same time, this week we witnessed the former vanguard of the elected progressive left, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, endorsing President Biden for reelection in a conversation with the Pod Save America hosts explaining that she believes Biden has done “quite well.” We press Congressman Khanna on why he and the Squad and Senator Sanders all jumped in early to back Biden when there’s a candidate in the race, Marianne Williamson, whose politics match there’s much more closely. Their decision to endorse is not only at odds with the left but at odds with a Democratic base that overwhelmingly says they want a contested primary including debates.
