Today on Sound : Dionne’s Déjà Vu.
Hello! I'm Gail Nobles, and today I want to talk about the Dionne Warwick song Déjà Vu. It is a 1979 hit ballad written by Isaac Hayes with lyricist Adrienne Anderson, recorded by Dionne Warwick for her album Dionne which Barry Manilow produced. The song won Warwick a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 22nd Grammy Awards.

Issued in November 1979 as the album's second single – following up Warwick's top ten comeback hit "I'll Never Love This Way Again" – "Déjà Vu" rose to number 15 on the US Billboard Hot 100, number 25 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and number one on the Adult Contemporary chart in early 1980.

I remember the song Déjà Vu when it was played many times on the radio. And in the 70s, I don't remember the Grammy Awards airing live or anyone mentioning the Grammys until the 1980s. The Grammys aired live on television for the first time in 1971, but as much as I heard Dionne’s song on the radio, I knew it was a hit. Radio was how I knew.

You’re listening to Sound Flave. I’m your host, Gail Nobles. Today’s topic: Dionne’s Deja Vu.
