episode 271: Interview with Ajaye

Growing up outside Vancouver, British Columbia, Ajaye came by music honestly performing in her family band The Jardines. “Learning the ropes of the music business within the safety of my family was a great way to get started,” says Ajaye. “But you gotta step out on your own at some point, and my move to Nashville was the ultimate growing up experience, both musically and from a life experience standpoint.”  In Nashville, Ajaye honed her songwriting craft and earned a name performing the Nashville club scene, including a performance residency at Blake Shelton’s Ole Red, and as host/founder of "The NashUp" - a weekly writer's night at Alley Taps in historic Printers Alley.  With a secure footing on both Canadian and American musical soil, Ajaye continues to write, record and collaborate with the best on both sides of the border.  Her new single "Growing Up" - which Ajaye wrote with Alberta's Joni Delaurier - is a joint release with Reluctant Cowboy Records (founded by Troy Kokol & Joni Delaurier). “If I’ve learned anything this past year, it’s that we’re all doing the best we can. So I started connecting to what sounds and feels good to me,” admits Ajaye. ”Growing Up is an ode to my younger self. To the 20 something me who felt lost, was always chasing after the wrong kind of romance, and tried so hard to fit in to try to make everybody else happy.” Songs included in this episode: 1) "Growing Up" - performed by Ajaye Jardine 2) "When You're My Age" - performed by Lori McKenna featuring Hillary Lindsey and Liz Rose 3) "Glorious Disaster" performed by Ajaye
