In our sinful state, our goodness is tainted with selfish motives and selfish desires. Our goodness does not please God --no one does good, not even one. God's goodness, on the other hand, represents His standard of goodness in all His ways. In Christ Jesus, our Heavenly Father ushers in a newness that is cloaked in Christ's righteousness, and the old self will pass away. Christ renews and transforms our minds. During that process, God will develop our potential to the greatest degree possible. II Cor. 5:17 (NKJV) says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." When we yield and surrender, the Holy Spirit will produce in us the best version of self we can be.
