Two boys, one a prince and the other a pauper, born on the same day, discover their physical similarity and decide to exchange clothes in order to test the reactions of people around them. Prince Edward is thrown out of the palace but is freed and crowned king the next day. A bird sent by God helps a lady, a starving writer, and a little girl by giving away the prince's gold to the poor. The bird then dies and the prince's statue is removed, but God keeps the prince's broken metal heart in His garden, reminding us that it is not where you come from that matters, but what you choose to be.
